Nvidia’s N1X Could Redraw Windows on Arm, A Serious AI Laptop Rival Emerges

A new contender may be preparing to challenge Qualcomm’s long-standing grip on Windows on Arm laptops. Nvidia’s leaked N1 and N1X details suggest the company is not entering the category cautiously, but with chips that look aimed at both high-performance and more efficient laptop segments.

The most striking part of the leak is the scale of the N1X configuration. One version is said to use a 20-core CPU in a 10+10 layout and 6,144 CUDA cores, while another N1X variant reportedly carries an 18-core CPU in a 9+9 setup with 5,120 CUDA cores.

Performance-first N1X variants

Those N1X figures point to a product line built with serious compute and graphics headroom in mind. The leaked power range of 45W to 80W also suggests that Nvidia is not targeting ultra-low-power thin-and-light devices as its primary goal.

Instead, N1X appears positioned for premium laptops and heavier-duty Windows on Arm machines. That would place it in a different lane from the more modest Arm notebook profiles that usually emphasize battery life over raw throughput.

A separate N1 line for efficiency

Below N1X, Nvidia is also said to be preparing the N1 as a more affordable and efficient option. Two configurations are mentioned: a 12-core model in an 8+4 arrangement and a 10-core model in a 7+3 arrangement.

On the graphics side, the N1 family is reportedly set to include 2,560 CUDA cores and 2,048 CUDA cores depending on the model. Its 18W to 45W power envelope makes it a better fit for thinner laptops and devices that prioritize efficiency.

That split between N1X and N1 shows a clear product strategy. Nvidia seems to be preparing one chip family for top-end performance and another for broader, more power-conscious adoption.

Why this matters for Windows on Arm

The larger significance goes beyond the raw specifications. Windows on Arm has been trying to widen hardware support and improve its appeal, but the platform has still leaned heavily on Qualcomm for chip supply.

Nvidia’s entry could change that balance quickly because the company brings deep strength in graphics and accelerated computing. If the leaked configurations prove accurate, Windows on Arm laptops could gain a much more aggressive performance option than the market has seen so far.

There is also growing alignment around the platform from Microsoft, Nvidia, and Arm. When those three names point in the same direction, attention naturally shifts to whether Windows on Arm is entering a new phase of expansion.

What to watch next

According to VideoCardz, Nvidia’s official details are expected on 1 June. Until then, the leak remains unconfirmed, and several important questions are still open.

Those questions include where N1 and N1X will sit in Nvidia’s lineup and which devices will use them first. Computex 2026 is shaping up as the key stage for those answers, especially if Nvidia’s presentation matches the leaked specifications.

For now, the biggest attention falls on N1X, since a 20-core CPU and 6,144 CUDA cores would make it one of the most ambitious Arm laptop chips discussed so far. But the presence of N1 also matters, because it suggests Nvidia is not only chasing flagship performance, but also building a wider foundation for Windows on Arm devices across more laptop classes.
