ShadPS4’s latest update pushes the PS4 emulator well beyond a basic compatibility release. Version 0.16.0 adds local multiplayer support, opening the door for compatible games to be played by two or more people in the same room.
That alone makes the update stand out, but it is not the only change. ShadPS4 also adds features that make the emulator feel closer to a living-room console experience, rather than a purely technical project.
A more console-like experience
One of the most notable additions is Big Picture Mode, which is designed for controller-based navigation from the sofa. That shifts the emulator’s usage model in a practical way and makes it easier to treat the software more like a console interface.
ShadPS4 also gains a screenshot feature, giving users a built-in way to capture gameplay without relying on external tools. Alongside that, the team has introduced early support for cameras, as well as early support for OpenAL audio.
The update also includes a new configuration and settings system. Together, these additions point to a broader effort to make the emulator easier to use day to day, not just more capable on paper.
Compatibility and stability continue to improve
Beyond the visible features, version 0.16.0 brings a long list of under-the-hood improvements. The development team has worked on Vulkan-related adjustments, memory and synchronization fixes, and texture-related changes.
Support for games using PS4 Pro features has also been improved. That matters because some titles rely on extra capabilities from the more powerful console and need more specific handling inside an emulator.
According to the developers, these core changes have produced real gains in compatibility. Games that previously crashed, froze, or behaved incorrectly can now move further or run properly.
More playable games on the list
The latest release also expands the number of games considered playable. ShadPS4 says six new titles now fall into that category thanks to version 0.16.0.
Among the games mentioned are Final Fantasy 1, Final Fantasy 2, Inside, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. With those additions, the total number of playable games on Windows rises to 111.
Linux sees an even larger number. The compatibility list now shows 144 playable titles on that platform, highlighting that progress in emulation can move at different speeds depending on the operating system.
More than game support
ShadPS4’s update is not limited to gameplay and compatibility. The release also includes several trophy-related improvements, which help strengthen another part of the PlayStation ecosystem experience.
Notification support has been added as well, and the team has put significant work into networking and online functionality. The full implementation details are not described in depth, but the direction is clear: the project is expanding beyond basic game execution.
Taken together, the addition of local multiplayer, controller-friendly navigation, stability work, and a growing playable library makes v0.16.0 a major step for ShadPS4. For users following PS4 emulation, the update shows that the project is moving from a technical milestone toward a more complete gaming experience.
