Apple’s next Pro iPhone may arrive with a detail that changes the user experience by market: battery capacity could differ from one country to another. The latest leak around iPhone 18 Pro points to a split configuration that may give some regions a small edge in endurance.
Digital Chat Station, a well-known leaker on Weibo, says Apple is preparing two battery options for the model. The United States version is said to be capable of using a 4,288mAh battery, while the China version is expected to carry a 4,056mAh unit.
The reason appears tied to Apple’s SIM strategy in each market. Since the iPhone 14 series, Apple has sold eSIM-only iPhones in the United States, removing the need for a physical SIM tray and freeing internal space that can be used for a slightly larger battery.
That same logic could affect other markets as well. iPhones sold in India still include a physical SIM slot, so the model there may end up closer to the 4,056mAh configuration expected for China.
Even so, the capacity gap is not especially large. That means day-to-day battery life may still depend heavily on chip efficiency, software optimization, and power management rather than on the battery number alone.
A modest jump from iPhone 17 Pro
The leak also suggests that Apple is not preparing a dramatic battery increase for iPhone 18 Pro. For comparison, iPhone 17 Pro is said to have a 3,988mAh battery in China and a 4,252mAh battery in the United States.
Against that baseline, iPhone 18 Pro would only bring a slight improvement in capacity. The numbers point to an incremental update rather than a major leap in battery size.
That matters because battery capacity is only one part of the overall endurance story. A phone with a smaller battery can still perform well if the hardware and software work efficiently together.
A20 Pro may matter more than the battery figure
Another rumor says iPhone 18 Pro will use the A20 Pro chipset. The chip is expected to be built on a more advanced 2nm process, which should generally improve power efficiency.
If that happens, battery life improvements could come more from the processor than from the battery itself. In that scenario, even the 4,056mAh version may remain competitive if the system uses power more carefully.
The 4,288mAh version in the United States could get an additional advantage from combining a larger battery with a more efficient chip. That would make the regional difference more noticeable, even if the gap in capacity remains relatively small.
Pricing and other features remain uncertain
Apple has not confirmed any battery specifications for iPhone 18 Pro, and the internal layout could still change before launch. Final decisions on components are not fixed until the device is officially announced.
Pricing is also still open. Digital Chat Station previously suggested a significant price increase, but that view does not fully match predictions from analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu, who believe Apple may try to keep the starting price close to current Pro models.
Beyond battery and pricing, iPhone 18 Pro is also expected to receive camera improvements. Combined with better efficiency and more refined software optimization, the model appears set for a broader upgrade package rather than a single headline change.
