Apple’s next Pro iPhone may be taking shape around two of the most visible upgrades buyers notice first: a new color identity and a more refined front design. Among the details now circulating, Dark Cherry stands out as the most talked-about finish for the iPhone 18 Pro line.
The name surfaced after tipster Yeux1122 shared an image on the Never blog that reportedly shows a metal frame for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Alongside Dark Cherry, the frame is said to show Cloud Blue and Black, giving an early look at the palette Apple may be preparing for its next premium models.
Dark Cherry has drawn extra attention because it matches earlier claims that Apple is working on a deep red shade with a wine-like tone for the Pro lineup. If that detail proves accurate, Apple would once again be using color as a key part of what separates its Pro devices from the rest of the range.
A premium color strategy remains in focus
Color choices often become part of the conversation every time a new iPhone approaches launch, and Apple has used that to reinforce the identity of its Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro was associated with Cosmic Orange, while the iPhone 16 Pro became known for Desert Titanium.
That pattern makes the Dark Cherry rumor especially interesting, since it suggests Apple may continue leaning on distinctive finishes to make the Pro series feel more exclusive. Even so, the exact color lineup for iPhone 18 Pro is still unsettled.
Yeux1122’s claim also conflicts with a previous statement from tipster Instant Digital, who said Black would not appear on the iPhone 18 Pro family. For now, that leaves the final list of colors unclear, even if the leaked frame points to Apple testing multiple options.
The Pro models appear to be the early priority
The broader release picture also suggests that Apple may be putting more emphasis on premium devices first. Current chatter points to only three new models arriving in September: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable device, which is being referred to as iPhone Ultra.
Other models are said to follow later. The standard iPhone 18 may arrive after that initial wave, while iPhone 18e and iPhone 18 Air are also mentioned as possible later additions.
That sequence matters because it places the Pro lineup at the center of the first reveal. In that context, early leaks about design and color carry extra weight, since they may define the first impression of the next iPhone generation.
Camera upgrades are also part of the story
The design changes are only one part of the rumored package. The iPhone 18 Pro series is also expected to bring meaningful camera improvements, starting with a variable aperture system for the main rear camera.
Such a setup would allow the lens to physically control how much light reaches the sensor. That could improve low-light shots, create more natural background blur in portraits, and give better exposure control when recording video.
Apple is also said to be considering a new three-layer stacked image sensor. Reports suggest it could improve dynamic range, reduce noise, and speed up image processing. The telephoto camera may also get a wider aperture, which would help zoom performance in dimmer conditions.
On the front, the camera may move up to 24 megapixels. That change would likely produce sharper selfies and clearer video calls.
Chip, memory, display, and battery changes may round out the upgrade
Inside the device, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are rumored to use the A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC’s 2nm process. The chip is said to bring up to 15 percent better performance and around 30 percent improved power efficiency compared with its predecessor.
Apple is also reportedly planning 12GB of RAM for the Pro models. A new memory packaging method is said to be part of the effort to improve overall speed and multitasking.
The display sizes are expected to stay the same, with the iPhone 18 Pro at 6.3 inches and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 6.9 inches. Even without a size change, the panel itself is said to move to a newer LTPO+ OLED display with better brightness, power efficiency, and image quality.
A smaller Dynamic Island may also be part of the redesign. The latest leak suggests Apple could reduce the cutout by about 35 percent, although under-display Face ID does not appear to be ready for this generation.
Battery life may see a notable jump at the top end as well. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to carry a battery in the 5,100mAh to 5,200mAh range, which would place it among the largest batteries ever used in an iPhone.
