Indonesia now has a dedicated internet domain for its artificial intelligence ecosystem: .ai.id. The new extension is designed to give local AI companies, research groups, communities, and institutions a digital identity that feels more closely tied to the country’s own technology landscape.
The move matters because many Indonesian startups have long used .ai to signal an AI focus. That extension, however, is the country code for Anguilla, leaving Indonesia without a domain that directly represents its growing AI sector.
A credibility signal for the AI industry
Supporters of .ai.id see it as more than a web address. The domain is intended to function as a marker of credibility and trust, especially as competition in the technology sector becomes more intense.
For businesses, investors, and the public, a domain tied to Indonesia can help distinguish organizations that are seriously building AI solutions in the country. It also offers a clearer identity for startups and research institutions operating in an increasingly crowded market.
The launch is the result of cooperation between Korika, short for Kolaborasi Riset dan Inovasi Industri Kecerdasan Artifisial, and PANDI, the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager. Together, they are positioning .ai.id as part of a more structured national AI ecosystem.
Linked to national AI ambitions
The domain also aligns with Indonesia’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. Under that framework, Indonesia aims to become one of the largest AI development hubs in Southeast Asia by 2030.
That ambition is backed by a fast-growing market. According to the Indonesia AI Report 2025, about 45 percent of business players in Indonesia have already begun adopting AI technology, with growth reaching 47 percent compared with the previous year.
Those figures suggest that the demand for supporting digital infrastructure is rising quickly. In that context, .ai.id is being presented as a foundational element that could strengthen trust while reinforcing Indonesia’s position in global technology.
How registration will roll out
Registration for .ai.id will be opened in stages through the official domain.ai.id website. The first phase is the Sunrise Period, which runs from 2 June to 2 July 2026 and is reserved for official trademark owners.
Next comes the Grandfather phase, scheduled from 13 July to 13 August 2026. This round is aimed at active .id domain holders who want to secure the .ai.id version of their name.
The Landrush phase follows from 24 August to 24 September 2026, allowing strategic domain names to be obtained through a premium pricing scheme.
General availability begins on 5 October 2026, when the broader public can register .ai.id through official PANDI registrars on a first come, first served basis. If more than one party wants the same name, an open auction mechanism will decide the winner.
| Registration Phase | Schedule | Who It Is For |
|---|---|---|
| Sunrise Period | 2 June to 2 July 2026 | Official trademark owners |
| Grandfather | 13 July to 13 August 2026 | Active .id domain holders |
| Landrush | 24 August to 24 September 2026 | Strategic names under premium pricing |

Why it may matter for local startups
For Indonesian AI startups, .ai.id creates a new way to present themselves as locally rooted while still speaking to an international audience. Research institutions and technology developers can also use it to strengthen their professional identity online.
As AI adoption expands, the domain may become a practical badge for services built in Indonesia. If usage spreads widely, .ai.id could eventually serve a role similar to .gov.id for government institutions and .ac.id for universities.
