Lenovo is taking its budget entertainment tablet strategy more seriously with the Tab Plus Gen 2. The Android tablet starts at $400, but its 9-speaker setup is the kind of hardware usually reserved for much more expensive devices.
That pricing shift matters because Lenovo is not only adding a speaker. It is pairing the audio system with JBL tuning and Dolby Atmos processing, then positioning the tablet as a family-friendly screen for movies, kids, and casual use outside the house.
Audio takes the lead
The headline feature is the 9-speaker array, which Lenovo says should deliver bigger sound and stronger bass than most Android tablets in this price range. It is the clearest signal that the company wants the Tab Plus Gen 2 to stand out as a home entertainment device first.
Lenovo also includes a dedicated Bluetooth speaker mode. That feature lets the tablet receive audio input from another device, so it can be used not only on Wi-Fi at home but also on picnics or in shared setups with a phone.
A larger display and a more polished body
The screen grows from 11 inches to 12.1 inches, with a 2.5K resolution. It is not an OLED panel, which is not surprising at this price, but the display is rated at 800 nits and supports HDR10, along with Dolby Vision processing.
Lenovo has also refined the physical design. The tablet comes in silver, uses a slimmer body, and has thinner bezels, giving it a more premium look without straying far from the product’s value-oriented positioning.
The most noticeable design change is the rear kickstand. Instead of the standard stand used on the first generation, the new model uses a ring-shaped kickstand that wraps around the center speaker unit.
That stand can be pulled out, rotated, and tilted. Lenovo says it works in both portrait and landscape orientations, can even be used for hanging the tablet, and its hinge feels sturdy in hands-on testing.
Performance, battery, and storage options
Inside, the Tab Plus Gen 2 runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset. The base model comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while higher configurations go up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Internal capacity may not be generous, but Lenovo adds a microSD slot that supports expansion up to 2TB. The tablet also carries a 10,200mAh battery and supports 45W charging.
Software and cameras round out the package
For imaging, Lenovo places an 8MP fixed-focus front camera and a 13MP rear camera with autofocus. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4.
The Tab Plus Gen 2 will launch with Android 16 and is promised two OS upgrades through Android 18, plus four years of security patches. Lenovo says the tablet will arrive globally soon, starting at $400 for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage version, which is $100 more than the previous generation but comes with a far more complete entertainment package.
