Honor X80 Pro Max Lands June 22, First Phone With 10,000-Nit Peak Display

Honor is preparing to launch the Honor X80 Pro Max on June 22 in China, and the mid-range phone is already drawing attention for one headline feature. The company says its display can reach a peak brightness of 10,000 nits, a figure it calls a first for the smartphone industry.

That number, however, refers to local peak brightness rather than the entire panel. In daily use, the screen is rated at 2,000 nits of full-screen brightness, which still places it among the brighter phones in its class.

A display built for extreme brightness

The Honor X80 Pro Max uses a 6.8-inch OLED display with a 1.5K resolution of 2,788 x 1,280 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It also supports 3,840 Hz PWM dimming to help reduce visible flicker.

Honor says the panel has an exceptionally narrow 1.3 mm bezel. The combination of high brightness, fast refresh rate, and thin borders is positioned as one of the phone’s main selling points.

Large battery, thin body

Battery life is another major focus. The phone packs an 11,000 mAh battery, which Honor says is the largest it has ever put in a commercial smartphone.

Despite that capacity, the device is said to remain relatively slim at 8.08 mm and weigh around 203 grams. It also supports 90-watt fast charging and 27-watt reverse charging for powering other devices.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and more hardware details

On the performance side, the Honor X80 Pro Max is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset. It also includes an in-display optical fingerprint sensor and a new optimization system called Hummingbird Architecture 2.0.

Honor says that system can make short-video playback up to 40 percent smoother than the previous generation. It is also designed to manage memory automatically so performance stays stable over time.

Cameras and durability

For imaging, the phone is said to feature a 50 MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization, while the front camera uses an 8 MP sensor placed in a punch-hole cutout. Those specifications keep the device squarely in the mid-range category, even as some of its other numbers push higher.

Honor has also emphasized durability. The X80 Pro Max has SGS Gold Label Five-Star certification for impact resistance and is claimed to survive drops from up to 3 meters.

The company is even offering a free screen replacement service if the display is damaged in a first accidental drop. In addition, the phone carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

The full price and availability details will be announced at the launch event on June 22 in China. Honor has not yet confirmed whether the X80 Pro Max will also make it to international markets, including Indonesia.

For now, the device stands out as an unusual mix of a massive battery, a very bright display, and a mid-range chipset, all packed into a body that Honor says remains slim and durable.
