Spider-Man Leaves Sony Xperia Behind, Samsung Foldables Take Over the Role

Spider-Man is set to appear with a very different phone in his next film. In the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter Parker is seen using a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip instead of the Sony Xperia devices long associated with the character.

The change is notable because Sony Pictures has often placed Xperia phones in its Spider-Man films as part of product placement. According to tekno.kompas.com, that pattern has become part of the franchise’s identity, especially during the era of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.

Samsung steps into the spotlight

Samsung has confirmed that the foldable device will serve as the main phone used by Spider-Man throughout the film. The company says viewers will see the portability of the Galaxy Z Flip directly in Spider-Man’s hands.

The shift also extends beyond Peter Parker. Ned Leeds, known as the “guy in the chair,” will use the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Watch. Samsung says Ned’s devices will help track the whereabouts of Spider-Man.

A different kind of product placement

The collaboration between Samsung and Sony Pictures goes beyond placing phones on screen. Samsung is also involved in developing a site called “Spidey Tracker,” inspired by the storyline in which Ned Leeds builds a website to help find Spider-Man.

The site will be part of a global promotional campaign for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to be released on 31 July 2026. It launched alongside the film’s latest trailer on 16 June.

For years, Xperia phones were a familiar visual detail in Spider-Man films tied to Sony’s own product strategy. Now, Samsung is taking over that role with foldable devices designed to stand out in one of the studio’s biggest franchises.
