Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 Brings Fixes Pixel Users Have Been Waiting For

Google has released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 for Pixel users enrolled in the beta program, and the update is focused less on new features than on stability. For many testers, that matters more than flashy additions because it targets the kind of bugs that affect everyday use.

The latest build addresses issues tied to cameras, graphics, external displays, and local network connectivity. It also adds one notable feature that was previously shown by Google during the Android Show.

Camera front support arrives for screen recording

The most visible addition in this beta is support for the front camera while recording the screen. That allows users to capture their display with a selfie camera overlay, a format often used for tutorials, presentations, and reaction videos.

Google had already previewed the feature during the Android Show, and it is now starting to roll out in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4. Some other experiments seen in Android Canary did not make it into this release, including broader Dynamic Color options and a Quick Settings tile for the keyboard.

Bug fixes target daily annoyances

Google also fixed a bug that caused the mouse pointer to disappear unexpectedly when a Pixel was connected to an external display. The issue was especially noticeable when the device used a Work Profile or certain security-protected apps.

Another fix resolves a crash in the Settings app that could happen when users opened the credential provider settings from Private Space. The sound tied to screenshots has also been separated from ring volume, making it possible to take a capture without affecting call alerts.

Graphics, camera, and navigation improvements

For gamers, the update includes a fix for a graphics driver regression that had reduced performance in OpenGL ES apps and games, including 3D game scenarios on newer Pixel devices. That should help restore smoother behavior where the issue had been visible.

Camera performance also gets attention, with Google fixing a bug that caused stuttering or frame jumps in 5x zoom video when panning during recording. In addition, Back Tap now works normally again on the interactive lock screen.

Wireless ADB and local networking are more stable

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 also addresses Wireless ADB failures and problems affecting apps that rely on local network access. Google says the fixes should improve reliability for both development workflows and everyday use cases that depend on that connection path.

The update is available for Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8 series, Pixel 9 series, Pixel 10 series, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are not included in this beta release, and Google has not explained why they were left out.

Overall, Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 looks like a maintenance-focused release that sharpens the platform ahead of the final version of Android 17 QPR1. For beta users, the value lies in fewer crashes, steadier connections, and smoother behavior across core features.
