Nokia Feature Phones Get an AI Button, but the Catch Comes After 180 Days

HMD Global has given its latest Nokia feature phones a surprising upgrade: a dedicated AI assistant button on every model. The move pushes the classic handset format a little closer to modern smartphone convenience without abandoning the simple design that defines the category.

The four global releases are the Nokia 210 4G, Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition, Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition, and Nokia 200 4G. All four run S30+ and use a 1,450 mAh battery, keeping the focus on basic communication, long standby, and compact hardware.

AI control from the phone body

HMD placed a dedicated AI assistant key on each device so users can call up the on-device assistant immediately. The assistant is powered by Sikey AI and is designed to handle more than simple questions.

With voice commands, users can turn on the flashlight, open the rear camera, set reminders, set alarms, and even make calls. That makes the new feature phones more useful for everyday tasks than many buyers might expect.

The AI feature is not permanently free

HMD says the AI assistant is free for the first 180 days. After that trial period ends, users need a paid subscription to keep using it.

The subscription purchase still requires the phone itself, showing that HMD is treating AI as part of a paid service layer rather than a forever-free extra.

Classic design with a few new details

Visually, the lineup still follows the familiar Nokia feature phone style. HMD has added a metal frame around the front camera area and a speaker above the display to give the phones a slightly updated look.

There are also clear differences in display and camera hardware. The Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition and Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition use a 2.8-inch IPS screen with QVGA resolution, while the Nokia 210 4G and Nokia 200 4G use a 2.4-inch screen with the same QVGA resolution.

Camera setup also varies across the lineup. The two larger-screen models come with VGA cameras on the front and rear, while the other two models include a 2 MP rear camera.

Basic features remain intact

Outside the AI addition, HMD has kept the expected feature phone essentials. The four models include a 3.5 mm audio jack, FM radio, Xpress Chat video calling, and a USB-C port for charging.

They also continue to run on S30+, reinforcing their place in the simple-phone segment rather than the smartphone market. The shared 1,450 mAh battery helps preserve the lightweight and efficient identity of the lineup.

For now, HMD has not announced pricing or availability for the four Nokia feature phones. Until that information arrives, the AI button remains the most notable detail separating these devices from ordinary feature phones.
