Tecno Pova 8 5G takes an unusual approach to standing out in the gaming phone category, placing a dot-matrix mini display inside its rear camera module. Called Alive Matrix Display, the panel can show lighting effects for calls, notifications, music, gaming activity, and charging.
The rear display is not limited to decorative lighting. It supports about 49 lighting scenarios and allows users to create their own animated patterns through Settings, Status Light, and Custom Light Effects.
The customization menu presents a dot-matrix illustration where users can draw a pattern or image for the mini screen. According to Kompas Tekno, the display is nearly the same size as the two lenses placed in the rear camera module.
This visual feature sits alongside a larger 8,000 mAh battery, up from 6,000 mAh in the Pova 7 5G. Tecno says the battery can support up to two days of normal use.
Large battery with charging options
Tecno lists up to 60 hours of calls, 85 hours of music playback, 29 hours of YouTube viewing, and 26 hours of WhatsApp chatting. The company also lists up to 14 hours of Mobile Legends gameplay.
The phone supports 45W fast charging, Bypass Charging, and 10W reverse charging. These features give the large battery a broader role, including powering another compatible device through reverse charging.

Gaming-focused screen and hardware
The Pova 8 5G has a 6.76-inch IPS LCD with Full HD Plus resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Its touch sampling rate reaches 240 Hz.
Tecno also includes Wet & Oily Finger Touch Recognition 2.0, which is intended to maintain screen responsiveness when fingers are wet or oily. The high refresh rate is designed to make navigation smoother, although the IPS LCD panel has different scrolling characteristics from an AMOLED display.
Power comes from the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset, with clock speeds of up to 2.4 GHz. The device is offered with up to 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage.
A 15,000-square-millimeter graphite sheet handles cooling duties. Tecno says the phone can maintain frame rates of up to 90 FPS in several popular games, supported by Game Space and a connectivity chip intended to improve gameplay.
Camera, durability, and software support
The main rear camera is a 50 MP unit using a Sony Lytia 600 sensor sized at 1/1.95 inches, with autofocus and 2x lossless zoom. The front camera has a 13 MP resolution.
The phone runs Android 16 with HiOS 16. Tecno promises two OS updates and three years of security patch updates.
Additional features include FreeLink 2.0, which supports internet-free communication at distances of up to 1.5 kilometers. The device also carries IP64 certification and MIL-STD-810H compliance.
The rear design retains Pova’s rounded triangular camera module and asymmetrical lines. It weighs 225 grams, measures 8.8 mm thick, and comes in Arc White, Graphite Black, Echo Green, and Helios Orange.
