Telkomsel has secured an additional 100 MHz of spectrum, creating room to expand internet coverage into underserved areas and increase network capacity. The allocation also strengthens the company’s path toward broader 5G development in Indonesia.
The spectrum was awarded through a selection process conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, known as Komdigi. Telkomsel received 2×10 MHz in the 700 MHz band and 80 MHz in the 2.6 GHz band.
Two Bands for Different Network Needs
The new allocation combines low-band and mid-band spectrum, which serve different purposes in a mobile network. The 700 MHz band is intended to support wider coverage, while the 2.6 GHz band is designed to add data capacity.
With its broad signal reach, the 700 MHz band can help extend connectivity to more remote locations. Its stronger ability to penetrate buildings also makes it relevant for improving indoor signal quality.

The larger 80 MHz allocation in the 2.6 GHz band is aimed at supporting heavier data traffic. It is also intended to meet the growing connectivity needs of industry and provide a foundation for Telkomsel’s 5G network development.
The combination gives the operator a way to balance geographic reach with higher-capacity data transmission. That balance is expected to improve internet experiences for individual customers as well as business users.
Deployment Will Be Gradual
Telkomsel said the additional spectrum will not be deployed all at once. Its use will be introduced gradually and in a measured manner, following the company’s network development stages.
The company has also committed to carrying out network construction obligations in villages designated by the regulator. The commitment places wider connectivity within the broader goal of digital inclusion.
Ronald Limoa, Telkomsel’s VP of Technology Strategy & Consumer Product Development, said the allocation should be seen as more than an increase in network resources. He described it as a responsibility to deliver better digital experiences for customers and the public.
“For Telkomsel, this spectrum allocation is not merely an additional network resource, but a mandate to continue delivering better digital experiences for customers and the people of Indonesia,” Ronald said in a statement on Wednesday (22/7/2026).
Public Resource With Strategic Value
Ronald said spectrum is a strategic public resource that should be translated into practical benefits for users. Telkomsel’s focus, he said, is to make digital services easier, more convenient, and more relevant for customers.
The company said it will continue coordinating with Komdigi and other stakeholders in subsequent stages. The effort is intended to support an inclusive and sustainable national digital transformation.
