Capcom is signaling that the first extra content planned for Resident Evil: Requiem will not be available to everyone from the start. According to producer Masato Kumazawa, players must finish the main story before they can unlock the mini-game DLC currently in development.
That requirement places the bonus mode firmly in endgame territory rather than as an optional side activity available early in the campaign. It also makes clear that Capcom wants the core story to come first, with the additional content serving as a reward after the main experience has been completed at least once.
A mode reserved for players who have already finished the game
Kumazawa said the mini-game opens only after the main story is cleared, which rules out early access during a first playthrough. The setup suggests that Capcom is treating the mode as a post-clear feature designed for players who already understand the game’s flow and combat rhythm.
The company has also framed the timing as something players may want to jump into later, with Golden Week mentioned as a fitting moment for those eager to try the content as soon as it becomes available. That positioning reinforces the idea that the DLC is not being built as a separate offshoot, but as extra content meant to follow the primary campaign.
Built around combat, not story expansion
Game director Koshi Nakanishi explained that the mode is based strictly on the battles in the main game. That means the extra content is expected to emphasize action and combat intensity rather than add a new narrative branch in the style of a traditional story DLC.
Nakanishi described the mode as something for players who have completed the main game but still want to “go wild” in combat. His comments point toward a fast-paced experience centered on fighting systems already established in Resident Evil: Requiem.
Because of that focus, many observers have compared it with Mercenaries in Resident Evil 4 Remake. The comparison is understandable, since both modes are tied to combat-heavy replay value after the main campaign is finished.
Story DLC is also in development
Capcom has also confirmed that an additional story DLC for Resident Evil: Requiem is being developed. However, official details about its direction remain limited, and the company has not yet shared specifics about what the narrative expansion will cover.
Nakanishi said the additional story DLC is currently in full production. At the same time, the mini-game is already in a more advanced stage, which suggests that the combat-focused content may arrive before the story-focused expansion.
That split shows two different plans for post-launch support. One track is built around gameplay-driven replay value, while the other is being prepared to extend the game’s story, even though Capcom is holding back the details for now.
