X is giving users a more direct way to shape what appears in their feeds, with a Custom Timeline designed around hobbies and interests. The update moves the experience away from relying entirely on a single “For You” algorithm and toward a setup that feels more personally selected.
For users who feel that too many unrelated topics crowd their home feed, the change could make browsing feel more focused. X says it wants discovery to become more relevant and more intentional through a more personal approach to curation.
With Custom Timeline, users can pin specific topics to the top of the home feed. That makes it easier to switch between tabs when following the latest discussion around subjects that matter most.
X is also preparing around 75 popular topic categories for selection. The list includes food, art, photography, business, finance, and entertainment topics such as movies and TV.
The system is not random. X uses Grok AI to read the context of posts and combine that with user interaction patterns so the content shown becomes more aligned with individual interests.
The more often a user engages with a topic, the more accurate the recommendations in the custom feed are expected to become. That approach is meant to keep the timeline more focused without cutting off access to other relevant conversations.
X Product Head Nikita Bier described the move as one of the company’s biggest changes. He said development of the feature had been underway for months.
The broader direction also reflects a shift in how X wants people to interact with content. Instead of depending on a single recommendation system, the company appears to be moving toward a more personal feed structure.
That direction is not entirely new across social platforms. Bluesky and Threads had already given users the ability to organize topic-based feeds in 2023 and 2024.
X has also released a separate tool that lets users snooze or hide certain topics in the “For You” tab. The feature gives users a 24-hour break from subjects that feel repetitive or likely to spark argument.
Topics such as politics or sports results can be hidden temporarily through that option. X presents it as a flexible way to protect focus or mental well-being without forcing users to stop following specific accounts.
Users simply choose the topic they want to hide, and the system filters that content automatically for the selected period. That makes feed control feel more practical for people who want to manage how information enters their timeline.
Custom Timeline is still in early access. It is currently available only to X Premium subscribers on iOS.
X says the feature will arrive for Premium users on Android soon. The topic snooze tool is already available to Premium users on iOS and the web.
