BYD is pushing the Atto 3 into a new phase with a set of upgrades that goes far beyond a routine refresh. The headline feature is a claimed battery top-up from 10 percent to 97 percent in just nine minutes, a figure that instantly puts the electric SUV back into the spotlight.
That charging claim matters because the Atto 3, known as the Yuan Plus in China, has been facing weaker sales. With this next-generation model, BYD is trying to rebuild momentum through faster charging, more power, a larger body, and a cabin that aims to feel noticeably more upscale.
Fast charging becomes the main talking point
The most attention-grabbing update is BYD’s new flash-charging technology. A 10 percent to 97 percent charging time of nine minutes places the Atto 3 among the most compelling EVs for buyers who value speed and convenience.
That kind of charging performance directly addresses one of the biggest concerns in electric mobility. It also makes the SUV more practical for daily use and long-distance travel, where shorter charging stops can change the ownership experience significantly.
More power and longer range
BYD is offering two LFP battery options for the new Atto 3. The entry version uses a 57.5 kWh battery paired with a 268 HP electric motor and a CLTC driving range of up to 540 kilometers.
The higher-spec version comes with a 68.5 kWh battery and 322 HP. With a full charge, BYD says this variant can travel up to 630 kilometers, which gives it stronger appeal for drivers who regularly move between cities.
A cabin built to feel more premium
The interior has also received a major upgrade. BYD has fitted the new Atto 3 with 16 speakers, a choice meant to strengthen the premium feel inside the cabin.
A mini fridge is another notable addition, and it can cool or warm food and drinks. That kind of feature has become increasingly relevant in modern EVs, especially for families and for longer journeys.
The equipment list is rounded out by a large floating infotainment screen, an LCD digital instrument cluster, a wireless charger, a head-up display, and a gear selector mounted behind the steering wheel. BYD also adds a powered tailgate, reinforcing the SUV’s everyday usability.
Exterior design grows sharper and dimensions increase
Outside, the new Atto 3 adopts BYD’s Loong Face design language. The front end looks sharper and uses horizontal chrome accents, giving the SUV a more futuristic and elegant appearance.
The side profile is cleaner too, thanks to semi-hidden door handles. This design choice helps the vehicle look more modern while keeping daily practicality intact.
Its size has also increased. The new model measures 4,665 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase. Those dimensions suggest a roomier cabin, especially for rear passengers, and make the SUV better suited to family use.
Driver assistance and market position
BYD has not limited the update to comfort and styling. The new Atto 3 also gets DiPilot 300 driver-assistance technology based on LiDAR.
That system is designed to help read road conditions and support the driver in a range of situations. In a segment where active safety and semi-autonomous features matter more every year, this addition strengthens the model’s position.
The new Atto 3 is expected to compete more directly with rivals such as the Geely EX5 and MG S5 EV. Since the previous Atto 3 already had a presence in Indonesia and was well received in the electric SUV segment, the new generation could also attract attention if it reaches the market there.
For buyers looking for a larger electric SUV with stronger performance, longer range, faster charging, and a more luxurious cabin, the new Atto 3 is shaping up as a much more assertive package than before.
