Apple’s next Pro iPhone may be heading toward a more restrained front design, with the Dynamic Island reportedly set to shrink on the iPhone 18 Pro. That single change suggests a broader hardware adjustment is underway, one that could affect not only the look of the display but also how key components are arranged behind it.
The latest CAD render shared by the X account Early Apple points to a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro. While the render has not been verified, it matches the direction of earlier speculation about a refreshed Pro lineup, and it keeps attention on one of the most recognizable visual features of modern iPhones.
A smaller front cutout, but not a full redesign
The Dynamic Island has become a defining part of recent iPhone models because it houses the front camera and important sensors. A reduction in its size would therefore matter beyond aesthetics, since it would indicate that Apple has found a way to free up more space at the top of the screen.
Current leaks do not point to the removal of the Dynamic Island. Instead, they suggest Apple may keep the concept while making it more compact so the front of the phone feels cleaner.
That possibility aligns with earlier reports that Apple has been testing under-display Face ID sensors. If those components move beneath the screen, the space needed at the top could be reduced, which would naturally make the Dynamic Island smaller.
Design changes may stay subtle elsewhere
The back of the device is not expected to undergo major changes. Even so, Apple may still introduce small refinements to the rear glass panel and the frame finish.
There is also chatter that the Pro models are being tested in new colors. Two names mentioned in the rumor cycle are burgundy and coffee brown, though neither has been confirmed.
A20 Pro and the push for efficiency
Beyond appearance, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are said to be moving to the A20 Pro chip. The processor is expected to use TSMC’s 2nm process, a move usually associated with stronger efficiency and better performance.
Apple is also reportedly exploring a more integrated chip layout. In that approach, RAM would be packaged together with the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, helping data move faster while also improving power and heat management.
Early claims suggest the shift could bring around 15 percent better performance and up to 30 percent stronger power efficiency. Those gains would not only affect general speed, but also support on-device AI features, including Apple Intelligence.
Camera upgrades are also in the mix
The camera system is another area attracting attention. One of the most discussed changes is a variable aperture mechanism on at least one rear camera.
That setup would allow the lens to adjust how much light enters based on shooting conditions. In practical terms, it could give the iPhone more flexibility when switching between bright scenes and low-light environments.
A new three-layer stacked sensor is also said to be in development, with Samsung reportedly among the possible component suppliers. That upgrade is expected to speed up photo processing, reduce noise, and improve dynamic range.
There are also rumors of a wider aperture on the main and telephoto cameras. Such a change would usually help with light capture and could improve results in difficult shooting conditions.
Pro Max may grow heavier to make room for a bigger battery
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to face a different trade-off. Apple may make the device slightly thicker in order to fit a much larger battery, with capacity said to reach 5,100mAh.
If that figure proves accurate, it would place the model among the largest batteries ever used in an iPhone. The cost of that change could be weight, since the device is said to potentially exceed 240 grams and become the heaviest iPhone Apple has ever shipped.
Display sizes appear unchanged for now. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to keep its 6.3-inch panel, while the Pro Max is said to retain its 6.9-inch screen.
Taken together, the current leaks point to a Pro generation built around careful refinement rather than a dramatic visual overhaul. The smaller Dynamic Island stands out most, but the chip upgrade, camera changes, and battery-focused Pro Max design all suggest Apple is preparing a more substantial shift under the surface.
