Noctua’s All-Black NF-A12x25 G2 Brings Premium Cooling Into Darker Builds

Noctua has long been one of the easiest brands to spot inside a PC case, and not always for the reasons builders wanted. Its familiar brown-and-beige styling has now given way to something many users have asked for: an all-black version of the NF-A12X25 G2.

The Chromax.Black treatment does not change the fan’s core identity. It simply makes one of Noctua’s most recognizable premium fans fit more naturally into modern dark-themed builds.

A familiar fan, now easier to match

The NF-A12X25 G2 Chromax.Black is essentially a cosmetic update to the regular NF-A12X25 G2. That means the 120mm model still relies on the same redesigned progressive-bend impeller, centrifugal turbulator hub, winglet-tipped blades, and 0.5 mm blade-tip clearance using Sterrox LCP.

Noctua says those engineering choices help raise airflow and static pressure while keeping noise under control. The company also claims the G2 fan can lower radiator temperatures by up to 3.5 degrees at the same noise level as the first-generation Noctua fan.

Built for high-end systems

The new black version keeps the technical foundation that defines the G2 family. Noctua says the 120mm model uses the same motor and aerodynamic approach as the 14cm G2 model, while also being refined in nearly every area.

That positioning matters because the fan is aimed at users who care about both cooling performance and acoustic behavior. In practical terms, the Chromax.Black release gives those users a way to keep that performance focus without having the fan color dictate the rest of the build.

Premium pricing, with matching options

Noctua has placed the NF-A12X25 G2 Chromax.Black firmly in its premium tier. The fan is priced at $34.90 per unit, while a twin-pack costs $64.90.

That pricing also reflects how the brand usually sells its products: as long-term components for builders who value consistency and durability as much as raw specifications. The twin-pack option is likely to appeal to users who want multiple cooling points in a system to look uniform.

Durability remains part of the pitch

Alongside the new finish, Noctua continues to highlight the fan’s reliability. The Chromax.Black G2 uses an SSO2 bearing and carries a 150,000-hour lifespan rating.

The package also includes accessories and a six-year warranty. That combination reinforces the fan’s place in the upper end of the market, where aesthetics alone are not enough to justify the purchase.

A long-requested finish for a flagship fan

Roland Mossig, Noctua’s CEO, said the first NF-A12X25 was one of the company’s most successful fans ever. He added that the response from customers and expert reviewers to the G2 model was very positive, which made the Chromax.Black launch an easy decision.

For many PC builders, that is the real appeal of this release. It does not ask them to choose between Noctua’s cooling approach and a cleaner all-black system design.
