Jakarta Emerges as Asia’s Battery Showcase, Indonesia Bets Big on Nickel and Storage Growth

The battery industry’s next major regional showcase is set to land in Jakarta, and the timing reflects how quickly Indonesia is trying to move beyond raw nickel production. With the country’s 1.6 million tons of national nickel reserves and a fast-expanding energy storage market, the capital is being positioned as a place where supply chains, technology, and investment interests can converge.

That momentum will be on display at The Battery Show Asia – Indonesia 2026, scheduled for 2-5 September 2026 at Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran. The event will be part of the Indonesia Energy & Engineering Series 2026 and is designed as a meeting point for the full battery value chain.

A wider industrial role for Indonesia

Indonesia’s push is not only about mining. Batteries are becoming more central to the country’s broader energy independence strategy, while domestic market growth suggests the sector is entering a more mature phase.

The domestic battery market is projected to rise 23.7 percent by 2030. At the same time, the BESS market is expected to grow sharply from USD 4.36 billion to USD 15.82 billion by 2032.

Jakarta as a platform for the battery ecosystem

The Jakarta event is being shaped as a place where battery cell manufacturers, battery management system providers, and recycling infrastructure operators can meet in one space. Organizers also want the second edition to deepen regional networking in electric vehicle technology.

The show will run alongside Electric & Power Indonesia and Data Center Asia. Together, the three events create an industrial setting that links power generation, energy storage, and digital data management in one integrated series.

Hanung Hanindito, Deputy Event Director of Pamerindo Indonesia, said the boundary between energy, manufacturing, and technology is becoming increasingly thin. He added that platforms like this can speed up collaboration and innovation while strengthening Indonesia’s bargaining position in international markets.

Industry players and research groups join in

Several important industry participants are already tied to the event. NBRI and PJCI are involved to help ensure discussions on battery safety and production efficiency are grounded in data.

PT Kaltimex Energy Indonesia and PT Sekisui Polymatech are preparing material solutions aimed at improving heat transfer efficiency. Global exhibitors including BryAir and Trafoindo Prima Perkasa also point to the widening demand for battery-related solutions across multiple industries.

For companies looking at the Indonesian market, the event offers an early entry point into a fast-growing regional innovation hub. That makes the exhibition relevant not only for suppliers, but also for firms tracking where future battery demand is likely to concentrate.

Technical focus for tropical conditions

Outside the exhibition floor, visitors will be able to attend technical seminars at the TBSI Stage. One highlighted topic is battery thermal management in tropical climates, a subject that matters for keeping electric vehicle batteries safe in Southeast Asia’s high temperatures.

Organizers are also placing circular economy practices and human resource development on the agenda. The goal is to encourage collaboration between industry and education so local talent can grow alongside the region’s increasingly complex energy transition.

Policy direction continues to support storage demand

Government efforts to accelerate the energy transition are adding further support to the market outlook. One major target is the development of 100 Gigawatt of Solar Power Plants, a policy direction that increases the need for larger, more efficient, and more sustainable energy storage systems.

Confidence around the Jakarta edition is also influenced by the experience of a similar event in Hong Kong, which attracted tens of thousands of professional buyers. Against that backdrop, the JIExpo gathering is expected to serve as a catalyst for green investment and the strengthening of Indonesia’s battery industry.
