Nubia is taking an unusual route in the gaming phone market: instead of keeping prices down by trimming features, it is raising the entry cost while adding hardware normally reserved for pricier devices. That shift is most visible in the newly launched Nubia Neo 5 Series in Indonesia.
The line is still positioned as an affordable gaming phone, but its pricing now sits much higher than the previous generation. The Nubia Neo 5 Series 5G is sold at Rp5.699.000 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM variant, while the Nubia Neo 5 GT comes in at Rp6.999.000 with 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM.
A sharp jump from the previous generation
The new pricing stands out because the Nubia Neo 3 Series had stayed in the Rp2 million to Rp3 million range. That means the newer generation is priced at roughly twice the level of its predecessor.
Even with that increase, Nubia is not relying on memory capacity alone to justify the cost. The company is pairing the higher price with a set of gaming-focused features that aim to make the package feel more complete.
Cooling becomes a core selling point
One of the biggest upgrades is the cooling system. The Nubia Neo 5 Series includes an internal cooling fan, a feature more commonly found on higher-end gaming phones.
On the Nubia Neo 5 GT, the total cooling area reaches 29,508 mm². The Nubia Neo 5 5G also uses a VC + Graphene cooling system with a 20,000 mm² area.
For users who spend long sessions in demanding games, that setup matters. Better temperature control can help reduce overheating risks and support steadier performance in FPS, MOBA, and open-world titles.
REDMAGIC-style features move into a cheaper phone
Nubia is also bringing several technologies inspired by its flagship REDMAGIC line to the Neo 5 Series. The devices include NeoTurbo Engine for gaming optimization, 360° Game Antenna for stronger and more stable connectivity, and AI Game Space 5.0 for performance enhancement and resource management.
This move shows a clear effort to shift part of the premium gaming experience into a more accessible device. Buyers are not only getting higher specs, but also tools designed to support a more complete gaming experience.
Zhuang Yongke, Country Manager nubia Indonesia, said the Nubia Neo 5 Series is designed for gamers who need stable performance, fast response, and battery endurance for longer play sessions. He also said REDMAGIC’s main gaming technologies are being brought into the Neo Series so more users can access professional-grade gaming features at a more affordable level.
Two product lines for different gamer groups
Nubia continues to separate its gaming strategy into two lines. REDMAGIC remains the flagship series for extreme performance and the most advanced gaming technology, with the slogan “Pro-Level Gaming, Built without Limit.”
The nubia Neo Series, meanwhile, is aimed at delivering a professional gaming experience to a broader audience. Its slogan, “Pro-Level Gaming for Everyone,” reflects the focus on stable performance, essential gaming features, and a friendlier price point.
That dual approach gives Nubia room to serve gamers with different budgets and expectations. In a market pressured by rising memory component costs, the company is responding not by holding the price line, but by raising the value inside the package.
