A 5,000 mAh Battery That Lasts Up To Three Days, Nokia G42 5G Also Lets Users Repair It Themselves

For many smartphone buyers, the real question is no longer how fast a device can run, but how long it can stay useful. Nokia G42 5G answers that question with a rare mix of long battery life, repair-friendly design, and a more sustainable approach to ownership.

The phone is not positioned as a spec leader in the crowded mid-range segment. Instead, it stands out because it challenges the usual cycle of replacing a handset the moment one component starts to fail.

A Different Approach to Everyday Durability

Nokia G42 5G uses a back panel made from 65% recycled plastic, yet the body still feels solid in daily use. The curved frame also helps the phone sit comfortably in the hand, including when grip is less secure.

The So Purple color option gives the device a distinctive look without making it feel excessive. It also carries an IP52 rating, which provides resistance against dust and light splashes.

Repairability as a Core Selling Point

The most unusual part of the phone is its QuickFix feature, developed with iFixit. This setup is designed to let users handle basic repairs themselves instead of immediately visiting a service center.

Replacement guidance and original parts are available through the partnership, and the disassembly process is described as manageable even for ordinary users. Simple tools such as a thin pry tool and a standard screwdriver are enough for tasks involving parts like the battery, display, and charging port.

Official spare parts are also sold through iFixit’s partnership site at prices described as affordable. That model is meant to extend the device’s lifespan while also helping reduce electronic waste.

Large Display, Modest Resolution

On the front, Nokia G42 5G uses a 6.56-inch display with HD+ resolution at 720 x 1612 pixels. The panel offers enough room for video playback and social media use, although its sharpness does not match a Full HD+ screen.

The display supports a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes menu transitions and scrolling feel smoother. Protection is also handled by Gorilla Glass 3, while the front camera sits in a classic waterdrop notch design with an 8 MP sensor.

Balanced Hardware for Daily Tasks

Under the hood, the phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ 5G chipset. This octa-core processor is considered adequate for common activities such as messaging, maps, and music playback.

Nokia offers the device in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, and the tested unit also supports up to 5GB of virtual RAM. Internal storage is set at 128GB and can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 1TB.

Camera Setup for Casual Use

At the back, the phone carries a 50 MP f/1.8 main camera, a 2 MP depth sensor, and a 2 MP macro camera. The main sensor can produce sharp photos with natural colors when the lighting is sufficient.

Performance changes in dimmer indoor settings, where noise becomes more visible. The 2 MP depth sensor helps portrait shots look cleaner, while the 2 MP macro unit plays a secondary role and delivers only average detail.

Battery Life Remains the Main Draw

The other major attraction is the 5,000 mAh battery, supported by 20W fast charging. In moderate use that includes messaging, reading news, and occasional video playback, Nokia G42 5G is claimed to last up to three days.

That endurance comes from the HD+ display and the efficiency of the Snapdragon 4-series chipset. The three-day figure does not apply to heavy use such as intensive online gaming with 5G active, where charging is still needed by the end of the second night.

Charging itself is not especially quick, since a full refill takes a little over two hours from empty. The phone ships with Android 13, and HMD promises two years of OS updates plus three years of monthly security updates.

So Grey and So Purple have already been mentioned as available color options, while the local launch schedule and price in Indonesia have not been officially announced.
