Samsung’s next large foldable is starting to look less like an incremental update and more like a deliberate design shift. A hands-on video of a dummy unit for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide has drawn attention because it shows a device that is wider, shorter, and strikingly thin.
That visual alone is enough to suggest Samsung is exploring a new direction for its premium foldable line. The dummy is not confirmed to be an official Samsung sample, but its shape has already fueled speculation about how far the company may push the form factor.
A wider body with a lower profile
The most obvious change is the device’s proportions. The dummy appears wider than previous Galaxy Z Fold models, yet its height is reduced, creating a front view that feels noticeably different from earlier generations.
The unit is also finished in white, which makes the silhouette stand out even more clearly. On the back, two vertically stacked cameras are visible, and the layout resembles the style seen on the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Ice Universe also commented on the dummy and described its quality as low, saying it should only be treated as a rough reference. That matters because dummy units do not always reflect the production version with accuracy.
Even so, these early models often provide the first concrete hint of a manufacturer’s design priorities. In this case, the clue is clear enough: Samsung seems to be testing a foldable that is both wider and thinner than before.
Bigger changes may extend beyond the exterior
