HyperOS 3 Opens Xiaomi to AirDrop, Making iPhone File Sharing Far Easier

Xiaomi is moving closer to making file sharing between Android and Apple devices feel far less complicated. With HyperOS 3, the company has added AirDrop compatibility to Quick Share, allowing Xiaomi phones to send photos and files to Apple devices without relying on third-party apps.

Xiaomi announced the support through its official Xiaomi HyperOS account on X. The company said AirDrop is now available in Quick Share for fast and seamless sharing to Apple devices, and the feature arrives through the latest HyperOS 3 build based on Android 16.

The change matters because AirDrop has long been closely associated with Apple’s own ecosystem. Until now, Android users often had to depend on outside apps or other workarounds when they wanted to move files to an iPhone or iPad.

Xiaomi has already shown one device that can use the feature. The newly launched Xiaomi 17T Pro is confirmed to support AirDrop-based file transfers, and the company demonstrated a photo moving from the phone to an iPhone in just a few seconds.

That demonstration underlines Xiaomi’s focus on speed and convenience. Instead of opening a separate app or taking extra steps, users can now share photos and documents through the phone’s built-in sharing system.

A broader shift across Android

Xiaomi is not the first Android brand to move in this direction. Google introduced AirDrop compatibility through Quick Share earlier, starting with the Pixel 10 series and later expanding it to the Pixel 9 lineup.

Other brands have followed the same path as well. Samsung brought a similar AirDrop-style file sharing feature to the Galaxy S26 series through Quick Share, while Oppo added support on the Find X9 series.

The pattern suggests that cross-platform sharing between Android and Apple is gradually becoming more common. What was once tightly limited to Apple devices is now being built into more Android phones through their native sharing tools.

What is known so far

Xiaomi has not yet said when older models will receive the feature. The company also has not shared a full list of phones beyond the device it has already demonstrated.

Even so, the direction is clear enough. HyperOS 3 appears set to bring the feature to more devices over time, and Xiaomi 17T Pro is the confirmed starting point. If that rollout expands as expected, more Xiaomi users will eventually be able to send files to iPhone and iPad users without leaving the phone’s built-in sharing system.
