Samsung appears to be setting up its next major AI showcase around the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra. If the current chatter proves accurate, those two foldables will be the first devices to debut Samsung’s biggest AI feature in One UI 9.
That detail matters because the feature in question is said to be absent from the Galaxy lineup already on sale, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra. In other words, Samsung may be preparing the Fold series to serve as the first public stage for its next wave of Galaxy AI.
A foldable-first strategy is taking shape
The direction is consistent with earlier signs that One UI 9 will bring a larger AI upgrade. When Samsung opened the One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S26 series, the company repeatedly highlighted AI improvements, even though it did not spell out the exact functions.
At the same time, Samsung also hinted that its next-generation foldables would launch with One UI 9 already installed. That combination places the Galaxy Z Fold 8 family in a strong position to introduce new software capabilities before they spread to the wider Galaxy ecosystem.
A well-known industry insider has now added more weight to that expectation. According to the circulating information, Samsung has already prepared a set of new AI features specifically for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, although the company has not disclosed the exact tools publicly.
Why the Fold line makes sense for AI
The choice is not surprising. Foldables give Samsung a larger display area, which opens the door to AI experiences that can feel more natural and more useful than on a standard phone screen.
That larger canvas also creates room for AI-driven multitasking and productivity functions designed for foldable use. The approach fits the way the Fold line has long been positioned for mobile work, flexible content consumption, and more demanding everyday tasks.
Samsung is also expected to widen the Fold 8’s design this year, with the main display reportedly moving toward a tablet-like 4:3 aspect ratio. Alongside it, the Fold 8 Ultra is said to keep a more traditional approach within the same family.
That design shift may help Samsung make better use of the larger surface area for AI tools. In that scenario, AI would not be presented as a simple add-on, but as part of the core experience of using the device.

One UI 9 itself is built on Android 17. That means the next software layer will not only include Samsung-made AI features, but also new AI capabilities that come from the operating system foundation.
The combination of Android 17 and One UI 9 is likely to become one of Samsung’s main talking points in the next product cycle. It also matches the growing impression that the company sees AI experience as a major driver for its mobile business.

For broader software distribution, One UI 9 is expected to start rolling out in September, or even earlier. That suggests many existing Galaxy devices may still receive the new features through an update later on.
Even so, the first impression would belong to the new Fold models. Because they are expected to launch with One UI 9 from day one, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra could become the first products to show how Samsung imagines the next stage of Galaxy AI.
