Redmi K Pad 2 Arrives, A Tiny Gaming Tablet With A Huge Battery And Dimensity 9500

Xiaomi has expanded its tablet lineup in China with the launch of the Redmi K Pad 2, a compact model aimed at users who want high-end performance in an 8.8-inch form factor. The device arrives as a successor to the previous generation and brings notable upgrades in processing power, battery capacity, and cooling.

The tablet is positioned as a gaming-focused option, but Xiaomi also adds several features that support everyday use, including a high-resolution display, fast charging, and modern wireless connectivity. With these additions, the Redmi K Pad 2 targets buyers who want a small tablet that still behaves like a premium device.

Compact display with high refresh rate

Redmi K Pad 2 keeps the same 8.8-inch IPS LCD panel as before, but the specification still looks strong for a compact tablet. The screen carries a 3K resolution of 3008 x 1880 pixels, which should help keep text and visuals sharp on the relatively small display.

Xiaomi also equips the panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, 1,100 nits peak brightness, and support for Dolby Vision and HDR. Those features are likely to matter most for gaming and media playback, where smooth motion and better contrast can improve the overall experience.

Dimensity 9500 powers the performance side

The biggest upgrade comes from the new MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset. Xiaomi says the chip is designed to deliver high performance while still fitting into a compact body, making the tablet more suitable for demanding games and heavy multitasking.

Memory and storage options also scale up with the hardware. The Redmi K Pad 2 supports LPDDR5X RAM up to 12GB and UFS 4.1 storage up to 512GB, which should help with faster app loading and smoother system performance in day-to-day use.

Cooling system built for long gaming sessions

To keep performance stable during extended gaming, Xiaomi places the chipset in the center of the body so heat can spread more evenly. That design choice is paired with a larger vapor chamber measuring 15,300 mm², which Xiaomi says improves heat dissipation compared with the previous model.

This kind of thermal setup matters for a gaming tablet, especially in a compact chassis where heat can build up quickly. Better cooling can help the device maintain consistent performance instead of slowing down under pressure.

Larger battery and faster charging

Battery life gets a meaningful upgrade as well. Redmi K Pad 2 uses a 9,100mAh battery, which is significantly larger than the 7,500mAh unit in the earlier generation.

The tablet also supports 67W fast charging, so users should spend less time connected to a charger. For a device aimed at gaming and entertainment, this combination of a bigger battery and faster top-up support is one of the most practical changes.

Cameras and extra features

For basic imaging needs, Xiaomi includes a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. These cameras are not the main selling point, but they cover common tablet tasks such as video calls and quick snapshots.

The Redmi K Pad 2 also comes with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a customizable extra button. These additions help the tablet feel more complete and give it a more premium hardware profile.

Price and availability

At the moment, Redmi K Pad 2 is available only in China. The starting model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at around 3,399 yuan, while the top configuration with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage costs around 4,799 yuan.

There is still no official word on a global release or an Indonesia launch. Xiaomi has previously brought similar products to international markets under different names, so the possibility remains open for buyers outside China.
