OnePlus 16 Tests a 200MP Main Camera and 9,000mAh Battery, Aiming Beyond Typical Flagships

OnePlus appears to be aiming far beyond a routine flagship refresh with the OnePlus 16. The leaked hardware points to a device that tries to combine a 200MP camera, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, and a 9,000mAh battery in one package.

That combination is drawing attention because OnePlus 15 was already seen as strong in performance, yet it did not deliver a major leap in camera capability. The latest leak suggests OnePlus wants to close that gap without losing the speed-focused identity that defines the brand.

A camera setup that may define the phone

The most discussed detail comes from Digital Chat Station, a Chinese tipster who said OnePlus is testing a OnePlus 16 prototype with a new camera configuration. The unit reportedly uses a 200-megapixel main camera with a large sensor, supported by a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera.

That setup differs from earlier rumors that pointed to a 200MP periscope telephoto camera as the main highlight. Digital Chat Station even asked followers which option looked more appealing, a 200MP main camera or a 200MP periscope telephoto, which suggests the final camera layout is still under evaluation.

Performance remains part of the plan

Even with the stronger camera direction, OnePlus does not appear ready to abandon performance as its core focus. Industry observers believe the company is unlikely to install two 200MP sensors at once, since that could raise manufacturing costs, complicate the design, and affect power efficiency.

A more balanced camera arrangement therefore looks more realistic. That approach would allow OnePlus to keep working toward better photography while still protecting battery life and overall speed.

Display and security details

The front side of the OnePlus 16 is also said to be ambitious. The phone is rumored to use a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 185Hz.

LTPO technology can adjust the refresh rate automatically depending on what is on screen, which helps improve power efficiency. If the 185Hz figure proves accurate, the panel would sit among the fastest refresh-rate displays in the flagship class.

The display is also said to include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Compared with conventional optical sensors, this type is generally known for being faster and more accurate.

Battery and chipset could be the biggest surprise

Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is tipped to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Qualcomm’s chip is expected to bring major gains in CPU, GPU, AI capability, and power efficiency.

That should make the phone suitable for demanding gaming, heavy multitasking, video editing, and generative AI processing. The battery story is even more striking, with leaks pointing to a capacity of up to 9,000mAh.

If that capacity reaches the final product, it would place the device among the largest-battery flagships on the market. The battery is said to be capable of lasting a full day, and even up to two days under normal usage.

Charging support is also expected to be strong. The device is rumored to offer 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, giving users more flexibility in daily use.

Software and premium extras

As a next-generation model, the OnePlus 16 is expected to launch with Android 17. In China, it may use ColorOS 17, while global units are said to arrive with OxygenOS 17.

Other premium features are also linked to the phone. The list includes an X-axis bionic vibration motor, symmetrical stereo speakers, IP68 and IP69 protection, and an improved cooling system for longer gaming sessions.

For now, all of these details remain in the rumor stage. Even so, the picture that is forming suggests OnePlus is preparing a flagship that aims to be fast, durable, and far more camera-focused than before.
