Vivo is positioning the X Fold 6 as more than another foldable hardware refresh. The company’s early teaser strategy puts OriginOS 6 Fold and AI at the center, suggesting that software experience will be the main selling point when the device arrives in China.
That direction also signals a broader shift in how Vivo wants to compete in the foldable segment. In promotional material posted on Weibo, the company described the X Fold 6 as part of its effort to become a “mobile terminal with the best AI user experience.”
Software comes first on the X Fold 6
Vivo has already confirmed that the X Fold 6 will launch in China, with product manager Han Boxiao making that confirmation on Weibo. The company has not disclosed the exact launch date yet, but the device is widely expected to appear this month.
The biggest software change is OriginOS 6 Fold, Vivo’s new custom interface for foldable phones. It is likely based on Android 16, although Vivo has not fully revealed the official details.
That matters because the current Vivo X Fold 5 still runs OriginOS 5 based on Android 15. The transition indicates that the X Fold 6 is being prepared not only as a new generation device, but also as a different kind of daily user experience.
Multitasking and AI are the main themes
One feature already mentioned is Atomic Workbench, which lets users run multiple Android apps at the same time on the foldable device. That capability fits the foldable form factor, where a larger screen is expected to support more complex multitasking.
Vivo is also highlighting AI features as a major part of the phone’s identity. The company has pointed to an AI Assistant, a dual-device buddy system, and improvements in “edge AI capabilities and AI interaction experiences.”
This emphasis suggests that on-device AI processing and the way users interact with smart features will be central to the X Fold 6 experience. The X Fold 6 has also been linked to a major camera upgrade. One rumor points to a 200-megapixel rear camera, which would represent a significant leap in imaging hardware.
