Apple’s iOS 27 source code has pointed to a major shift in the company’s roadmap: the long-rumored iPhone Ultra may be closer than many expected. The leak surfaced through system files examined by developers and technology observers, not from Apple’s main stage presentations.
What stands out is not only the name, but the breadth of details embedded in the software. The code suggests Apple is preparing the device for a near-term launch, while also laying the groundwork for a foldable design, premium performance, and thermal hardware aimed at demanding users.
September Launch Signals Grow Stronger
Earlier rumors suggested the foldable project could be delayed by technical issues. The iOS 27 code points in the opposite direction, indicating that the operating system is already preparing full support for the new device in the fall.
That clue has strengthened expectations that the iPhone Ultra will debut in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series. If accurate, it would mean Apple is not shelving the project, but lining it up for its first public release.
Cooling Hardware Built for Heavy Use
One of the most notable details is the rumored Vapor Chamber cooling system, often shortened to VC. The code suggests a new thermal setup optimized for sustained performance, which matters especially for a device expected to be extremely thin.
The foldable iPhone Ultra is said to measure around 4.5 mm when unfolded. With VC cooling, the device is expected to handle demanding gaming sessions more steadily, reducing the risk of overheating and performance throttling.
Foldable Interface And Security Changes
iOS 27 also appears to include visual updates tailored to a foldable screen. That would be an important step for a device that must transition smoothly between folded and unfolded states.
The same system clues also indicate that Face ID may not be part of the package. Instead, Touch ID is said to be integrated into the side power button, matching a design with a flexible display and very thin bezels.
A20 Pro, 12GB RAM, And On-Device AI
Performance is expected to be led by the A20 Pro chipset, paired with at least 12GB of RAM. The combination appears to be aimed not only at gaming, but also at running local AI features in iOS 27.
