Insta360 has pulled the launch of Luna Ultra forward, signaling a more aggressive push into the premium vlogging camera segment long associated with DJI’s Osmo Pocket lineup. The device is now set to arrive on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after early retail listings exposed its availability ahead of schedule.
That early appearance, including at B&H Photo in New York, suggests Insta360 is eager to turn leaked stock into momentum. For a market built on compact design and stabilized shooting, the timing adds another layer of pressure to an already competitive category.
Dual-camera system built for flexibility
Luna Ultra uses a dual-camera setup supported by a three-axis gimbal stabilizer. The main camera relies on a Leica Summicron lens with a Type 1 sensor, while the telephoto camera uses a Type 1/1.3 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.
That combination enables up to 6x optical zoom without image degradation, with digital zoom extending to 12x. It is one of the clearest signs that Insta360 wants this model to stand out not just as a compact camera, but as a serious mobile storytelling tool.
The other major update is a detachable OLED touchscreen. Insta360 says the removable display can also function as a remote monitor, giving creators more flexibility when framing shots away from the camera body.
Max Richter, VP of Marketing and Co-Founder at Insta360, described Luna Ultra as a marker of the company’s entry into the gimbal camera space. He said the device is backed by the company’s full imaging expertise.
High-end video features aimed at creators
On the recording side, Luna Ultra supports up to 8K at 30fps in Dolby Vision format. It also offers 10-bit I-Log recording with a 14-stop dynamic range.
Insta360 has added AI Deep Track 5.0 to help keep subjects locked in with greater precision while filming. The feature set positions Luna Ultra as a content-focused camera that leans heavily on image quality, subject tracking, and shooting flexibility.
Those specifications place it squarely in the premium segment, where compact size is no longer enough on its own. Instead, buyers are being asked to weigh advanced color handling, high-resolution recording, and AI-assisted tracking in one device.
Battery, storage, and pricing
The battery is rated at 1,550 mAh and is said to last up to 4 hours. For storage, Luna Ultra includes 47GB of internal memory and supports expansion up to 1TB.
The camera comes in Cosmic Black and Stellar White, with pricing set at USD 769.99 or around Rp 12.5 million. With that price point and its feature list, Insta360 is clearly aiming Luna Ultra at the same audience that has helped make DJI’s compact vlogging cameras so influential.
By accelerating the release and pairing it with a removable screen, a dual-camera design, and 6x optical zoom, Insta360 is making a direct statement about where it wants to compete. Luna Ultra is not trying to be a modest update; it is arriving as a full challenge to the established leaders in this segment.
