The idea of a touchscreen MacBook Pro is moving from speculation toward something more concrete. A leaker known as Instant Digital, who has a track record of accurate Apple predictions, said the company’s first touchscreen laptop is now “100% confirmed,” according to MacRumors.
If that claim proves true, Apple would be crossing one of its longest-standing lines in the Mac lineup. For years, the company has insisted that Macs are built for trackpads and mice, not direct touch input.
The potential shift matters because it would mark a major change in how Apple defines the MacBook Pro. It would also narrow a distinction Apple has carefully maintained between the Mac and the iPad.
A laptop, not a hybrid device
Even with touchscreen talk growing louder, Apple is not expected to turn the MacBook into a hybrid machine like an iPad. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said Apple’s direction is to make the Mac “touch-friendly, not touch-first.”
That approach suggests touch would be an added option rather than the center of the experience. Keyboard input, the trackpad, and the mouse would still remain the main ways to use the device.

Hints of a shift are not limited to hardware rumors. Apple is also said to be making macOS more touch-friendly in macOS 27 Golden Gate.
That matters because a touchscreen laptop needs software that can handle finger input comfortably, not just a display panel that supports it. Interface adjustments would be essential for making the experience feel natural.
Another sign comes from Sidecar, which now lets users interact directly with macOS elements using a finger on the iPad display.
To many observers, that capability looks like another step toward a more flexible Mac experience. It does not mean the Mac has become a full touchscreen device, but it does suggest the groundwork is being laid.
The next MacBook Pro may be a much bigger upgrade
The touchscreen rumor is only one part of a broader wave of changes expected for the next MacBook Pro. The premium laptop is also rumored to get M6 Pro and M6 Max chips.
Apple is additionally said to be moving to an OLED display, which could improve image quality and energy efficiency. A thinner design is also being discussed.
There is even a possibility that the top-tier model could get a new name, MacBook Ultra.
