Samsung’s next flagship tablet is shaping up to be one of the company’s most interesting hardware shifts in years. The latest leak suggests the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra could move away from Snapdragon and adopt MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 instead.
That change matters because Samsung has long associated its premium tablets with Qualcomm chips. If the report proves accurate, the Tab S12 Ultra would signal a different strategy for performance and power efficiency in the Ultra line.
A notable shift in the chipset strategy
According to GalaxyClub.nl, the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra will not use a Snapdragon processor. Instead, Samsung is said to be preparing MediaTek Dimensity 9500 for the flagship model.
The move stands out because it would place MediaTek at the center of Samsung’s top-tier tablet plans. The Dimensity 9500 is expected to offer a balance of strong performance and efficient power use, which could suit a large premium tablet well.
Big battery remains part of the formula
The battery story is just as important as the chipset rumor. The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is expected to keep a large battery close to what Samsung used in the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra.
That earlier model carries an 11,600 mAh battery, and the newer tablet is also rumored to support 45W charging. For a device built around a large display and productivity use, that combination suggests Samsung is still prioritizing endurance.
A big battery matters even more in a flagship tablet that is likely to be used for work, entertainment, and multitasking. Samsung appears to be holding on to the same basic approach rather than chasing a drastic redesign in battery capacity.
The display formula stays familiar
On the front, the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is said to keep a 14.6-inch display. That size has become one of the defining traits of the Ultra series, giving users plenty of room for split-screen work and media consumption.
The large panel also helps explain why battery life remains a central part of the package. A screen this size is one of the main reasons Samsung continues to treat the Ultra model as a productivity-first tablet with a premium entertainment angle.
Samsung may narrow the lineup
Another rumor points to a simpler tablet family this time around. Samsung may skip a standard Galaxy Tab S12 model and focus only on the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra.
The two models are reportedly identified by the SM-X846 and SM-X946 model numbers. That would suggest Samsung is streamlining its premium tablet range while keeping attention on the upper end of the lineup.
Launch timing remains distant
The Galaxy Tab S12 series is tipped to arrive around September 2026. Until then, the chipset choice, battery details, and lineup structure remain subject to change.
For markets such as Indonesia, the possibility of a local launch remains open. Samsung has regularly brought its flagship tablets to the country, so the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra could follow the same path if the rumors hold true.
