Galaxy Watch 4 to FE Get a Security Boost, Samsung Quietly Widens Protection

Samsung has begun pushing its latest security patch to older Galaxy Watch models that are still supported, extending protection beyond the newest devices. The rollout covers the Galaxy Watch FE, Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 4 families.

The update matters because it closes 36 issues in the previous firmware and strengthens the security layer on watches that many users still wear daily. Samsung had already delivered the same patch to the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7 before expanding it further.

Which models are included

Seven devices are listed in the current rollout: Galaxy Watch FE, Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, Galaxy Watch 4, and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. For now, the early release appears limited to South Korea and is reaching Wi-Fi-only variants first.

ModelFirmware Version
Galaxy Watch FER861XXS2CZE1
Galaxy Watch 6R930TBS2CZE1
Galaxy Watch 6 ClassicR960XXS2CZE1
Galaxy Watch 5R900XXS2DZE1
Galaxy Watch 5 ProR920XXS2DZE1
Galaxy Watch 4R870XXS2JZE1
Galaxy Watch 4 ClassicR890XXS2JZE1

Each model receives a different firmware build, which is normal because Samsung uses separate software bases and configurations for its wearables. The important point is that all seven devices in the supported lineup are now being prepared for the same security improvements.

What the patch changes

This release is centered on security maintenance rather than new features. Samsung says the May 2026 security patch resolves a total of 36 problems found in the previous firmware, making the update valuable even without visible changes in the interface.

That approach also shows how Samsung continues to support multiple generations of Galaxy Watch at once. For owners of older models, the update is a reminder that those watches are still inside the company’s active maintenance cycle as long as they remain eligible.

Rollout will expand gradually

Samsung is expected to widen distribution to other markets in stages over the next few days. That means availability may differ by region and by model, especially for users outside South Korea.

Cellular versions have not been mentioned in the initial rollout, so LTE owners may need to wait a little longer for their turn. A short delay is still normal under Samsung’s staged release process and does not necessarily mean the update is unavailable.

Users who want to check manually can do so through the Wearables app by opening Watch settings, then Watch software update, and finally Download and install. If the patch does not appear yet, the most likely reason is that the rollout has not reached that market or variant.

With this move, Samsung is keeping its older smartwatch line on a stronger security footing while the latest models already receive the same patch. For Galaxy Watch FE through Galaxy Watch 4 Classic owners, the update is a clear sign that support remains active for devices that still qualify.
