Logitech G316 X 98 Combines 8,000Hz Speed with Hot-Swap Flexibility

Logitech is pushing its G3 Series further with the G316 X 98, a wired mechanical gaming keyboard built around an 8,000Hz polling rate and hot-swappable switches. The model is aimed at PC users who want low input latency without giving up the option to change switch feel later.

The keyboard also stands out because it uses a 98% layout. That format keeps the numpad while taking up less desk space than a typical full-size keyboard, giving it a practical edge for gamers who want a compact setup without losing key functionality.

Performance first, with room to customize

At the center of the G316 X 98 is its 8,000Hz polling rate, a specification designed to reduce input latency. Logitech pairs that with two switch choices at purchase, giving buyers an early choice in how the keyboard will feel from day one.

The tactile option comes with a 2.2 mm actuation distance and 55 g of force, while the linear version uses a 1.9 mm actuation distance and 40 g of force. The keyboard also supports hot-swap, so users can replace the stock switches later with standard cross-hatch stem alternatives.

That approach makes the keyboard relevant to two different groups. Competitive players can focus on responsiveness, while users who type as much as they game can tune the feel to match their preference.

A compact layout with useful hardware controls

The 98% design sits between compact keyboards and full-size boards, preserving the numpad in a smaller footprint. Logitech also added a dot-matrix LED screen at the top right to show system settings.

Next to that display is a physical dial that can adjust volume, media playback, brightness, and keyboard report rate directly on the board. Those controls reduce the need to open software for basic changes during a game or work session.

Build quality and typing experience

Logitech says the G316 X 98 uses a gasket-mounted structure with an internal sound-dampening layer. The design is intended to reduce metallic ping and create a more muted typing sound.

The keyboard also uses PBT keycaps, which are generally more resistant to the shiny wear that can appear on cheaper plastics over time. Together, the mount, damping material, and keycap choice suggest Logitech is targeting more than raw gaming metrics.

RGB control and software features

Lighting is another major part of the package, with per-key RGB and a light bar split into 30 customizable zones. Logitech manages those effects through G Hub, the software used for several advanced functions.

Through G Hub, users can activate 8 kHz polling, build macros, remap keys, and set game mode options. Some of the keyboard’s headline features therefore depend on the software layer rather than only the hardware itself.

Price, size, and compatibility

Logitech plans to launch the G316 X 98 on June 30, 2026, with a price of $119.99. The keyboard will be sold in black and white.

It weighs 880 grams without the cable and 920 grams with the 1.8-meter cable attached. Logitech lists USB-A connectivity and support for Windows 10 or later, as well as macOS 12 or later.

The G316 X 98 arrives alongside the G305 X Superlight wireless mouse, but the keyboard’s main appeal is its mix of fast response, a space-saving 98% layout, and easy switch replacement. For users who want a wired gaming board with more room to personalize, it is one of Logitech’s more interesting recent additions.
