Oppo has pushed battery life into the spotlight with the Reno 15A 5G, a midrange phone that pairs a 7,000mAh cell with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The device is already open for pre-order in Japan, with pricing that starts at JPY 64,800.
That combination makes the Reno 15A 5G stand out immediately in a segment where battery capacity usually comes with trade-offs. Oppo, however, has backed the large battery with a fairly complete spec sheet that includes a 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, and a 50MP main camera with OIS.
Battery life is the headline feature
The strongest selling point is the 7,000mAh battery, which is unusually large for a phone positioned in the midrange category. Oppo says the handset supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, a pairing that should help reduce the time needed to refill such a big battery.
In practical terms, the charging setup gives the Reno 15A 5G a clear advantage for users who care more about endurance than thinness. The phone still keeps its weight at around 202 grams, which is reasonable given the battery size and charging hardware.
Display, durability, and design
On the front, Oppo equips the phone with a 6.6-inch AMOLED panel with Full-HD+ resolution, or 1,080 x 2,372 pixels. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color, 1,400 nits peak brightness, 397 ppi density, and 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage.
Oppo also lists a 92.8 percent screen-to-body ratio, 240Hz touch sampling, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Beyond the display, the device carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, which adds another layer of appeal for buyers looking for a sturdier midrange option.
Performance and software
For processing power, the Reno 15A 5G uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. The octa-core chip combines four efficiency cores running at 1.8GHz and four performance cores with a peak clock speed of 2.2GHz, alongside an Adreno 710 GPU.
Memory options go up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM, while storage reaches 256GB using UFS 3.1. The phone runs ColorOS 16 based on Android 16 and supports dual-SIM connectivity.
Cameras and connectivity
Oppo has given the Reno 15A 5G a triple rear camera system led by a 50MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS. It is joined by an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 112-degree field of view and a 2MP macro camera.
For selfies and video calls, the phone includes a 50MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a 100-degree viewing angle. Video recording goes up to 4K at 30 fps, which keeps the camera setup competitive for its class.
Connectivity support includes 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, USB Type-C, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, and QZSS. Security and sensing hardware includes an in-display fingerprint sensor, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, and e-compass.
Pricing and availability in Japan
In Japan, the Reno 15A 5G is offered in two memory configurations. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model costs JPY 64,800, while the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version is priced at JPY 76,800.
The phone is available for pre-order through Oppo’s online store in Japan and comes in three colors: Afterglow Pink, Aurora Blue, and Twilight Navy. As a successor to the Oppo Reno 13A, it arrives with a clear message that battery capacity is now one of the most important differentiators in the Reno lineup.
