Xiaomi 18 Pro Tests Privacy Screen Tech, Aims to Block Side Glances on Flagships

Xiaomi’s next flagship may put privacy ahead of the usual race for camera and performance upgrades. The Xiaomi 18 Pro is reportedly being tested with a built-in privacy screen feature that limits side viewing, making sensitive content harder to read from nearby seats.

If the feature reaches the final product, Xiaomi could become the second brand to bring this kind of display protection to a smartphone. The approach is designed to help keep messages, passwords, and banking information out of sight in public places.

What the privacy display is meant to do

The feature is said to work by narrowing the viewing angle of the screen. That means people sitting beside the user would have a harder time seeing what is on display, especially when the phone is used on public transport, in cafes, or in other crowded spaces.

For everyday use, the benefit is straightforward. Private notifications, login screens, and banking apps are among the situations where an anti-peek display could matter most.

According to a post from leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Xiaomi is testing a flagship phone with a next-generation 2K display and integrated privacy protection. The post did not name the device directly, but speculation has pointed to the Xiaomi 18 Pro as part of the upcoming Xiaomi 18 lineup.

Display upgrades remain central

The reported testing of a new 2K panel suggests that Xiaomi is still treating screen quality as one of the main selling points for its premium phones. The privacy layer is being discussed alongside the display itself, showing that protection and visual quality are being developed together.

That combination could help the phone stand out in a market where flagship competition is no longer focused only on raw speed. Comfort, security, and day-to-day usability are increasingly becoming part of the premium equation.

Other leaks have also linked the Xiaomi 18 series with a 200 MP main camera using LOFIC, or Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor, technology. Tipster Smart Pikachu said this could be one of the headline imaging upgrades for the range.

Rear screen, brightness, and an Apple-like feel

Smart Pikachu also said the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are expected to keep the rear screen unchanged. Even so, the two models are said to receive higher brightness levels.

In the same leak, the overall visual experience was described as “Apple-like.” The remark was not accompanied by a deeper technical explanation, but it suggests Xiaomi is aiming for a more premium and consistent look and feel.

Launch strategy may shift

There are also signs that Xiaomi may alter how it introduces the series. Instead of unveiling the standard and Pro models at the same time, the company could launch the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max first.

The standard Xiaomi 18 may follow later, a move that would echo rumored plans around Apple’s iPhone 18 rollout. If that happens, the premium models would likely receive the earliest attention.

Smart Pikachu mentioned September as a possible launch window, although Xiaomi has not confirmed any date, final specifications, or the exact lineup yet.

Still a rumor, but the direction is clear

For now, the Xiaomi 18 series remains unannounced, so all details should be treated as early leaks. Even so, the pattern is becoming easier to read as more reports point toward the same broad direction.

Xiaomi appears to be preparing a flagship that does more than chase benchmark numbers. A sharper display, stronger privacy protection, and a major camera upgrade would place the Xiaomi 18 Pro in a more complete premium package if the rumors prove accurate.

The series is expected to arrive toward the end of the year and is also rumored to go on sale in China before the Spring Festival next year.
