The rollout of One UI 8.5 to the Galaxy S23 Ultra has triggered a wave of complaints that goes beyond ordinary interface glitches. The most alarming report involves a vertical pink line appearing on the display after the update was installed.
That report has drawn attention because the user said the phone had no physical damage and had never been exposed to water before the issue began. The display was reportedly normal before the update, then the pink line appeared immediately afterward.
More than a display issue
The complaint did not stop at the pink line. The same user also described font size and display scaling changing at random, along with flickering on the screen.
There were additional reports of the screen zooming in and out on its own without any input. The device was also said to suffer from stuttering, lag, and animation bugs after the update.
Taken together, the symptoms suggest a broader instability issue rather than a single visual defect. If the problem is software-related, it could affect the interface, display behavior, and system performance at the same time.
Samsung community moderators suggested basic troubleshooting steps, including restarting the device and checking that the latest software update was installed. According to the reports, those steps did not resolve the problem.
So far, Samsung has not issued a public statement acknowledging the complaints raised by Galaxy S23 Ultra users. The company’s response remains unclear as more reports continue to surface in community discussions.
The update is arriving as rollout expands
One UI 8.5 stable began rolling out in early May after testing that started in late 2025. It first arrived on the Galaxy S26 series before expanding to more devices.
The initial rollout later reached the Galaxy S25 and S24 series, followed by the Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Galaxy Tab S11, and Tab S10. The Galaxy S23 line is now part of that broader distribution.
That timing helps explain why complaints from Galaxy S23 Ultra owners are getting more attention now. For users who have not updated yet, the reports may be enough to make them wait for further clarity before installing One UI 8.5.
Another issue is being reported
The Galaxy S23 Ultra complaints are not the only concern tied to One UI 8.5. Near the end of May, users also reported that Samsung had removed the video filter option from Galaxy phones running the update.
That separate issue was mentioned by more than one user, with one saying the video recording filter option had disappeared and another confirming the same behavior. While it is unrelated to the screen problem, it adds to the sense that the update still carries unresolved issues on older Galaxy devices.
For now, the main concern for Galaxy S23 Ultra owners is the possibility that a software update could be linked to a display symptom often associated with hardware damage. In this case, the complaint came from a user who said the phone had been functioning normally before the update and had no prior physical or water damage.
Until Samsung provides a clearer explanation, Galaxy S23 users receiving One UI 8.5 will likely keep watching community reports before deciding whether to install the update immediately.
