The latest talk around the iPhone 18 Pro is not about a small camera tweak. It points to a noticeably thicker rear module, which suggests Apple may be preparing a more substantial hardware shift than usual.
According to a well-known leaker on Weibo, the main camera improvement for the iPhone 18 Pro has now been “confirmed.” The most concrete detail in the rumor is a camera bump that could be about 2 mm thicker than the one on the previous model.
A larger module could signal bigger changes inside
The same claim is also said to apply to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. If accurate, the increased size would likely reflect internal camera hardware that needs more room, not just a different outer shape.
One of the most closely linked possibilities is a variable-aperture main camera. That type of system lets the lens opening adjust to different shooting conditions, but it can also require more physical space inside the phone.
There is also a chance that Apple is planning a larger sensor for the main camera. In practice, that combination would help explain why the rear camera housing may need to grow thicker on both Pro models.
