Red Magic’s Dual USB-C Gaming Tablet Puts Lenovo on Alert

Red Magic is moving aggressively into the compact gaming tablet race with a device that tries to solve one of the biggest frustrations for mobile players: power management. The upcoming Gaming Tablet 5 Pro combines dual USB-C ports, 80W wired charging, and wired reverse charging in a format built for long gaming sessions.

That combination makes the tablet stand out before it even reaches the market. While compact gaming tablets often force users to choose between charging, accessories, or an awkward cable setup, Red Magic is positioning this model as a more flexible option for players who want fewer compromises.

Power setup built for endurance

The tablet uses an 8,300mAh battery, which is smaller than the 9,000mAh cell in Lenovo’s Legion Tab Gen 5. Red Magic offsets that gap with 80W wired charging, which is faster than the 68W charging support on Lenovo’s tablet.

Dual USB-C ports add another layer of convenience. The design can make it easier to charge the device while keeping one port available for accessories or other use cases, especially during extended gaming sessions.

Red Magic also includes wired reverse charging, allowing the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro to act as a power source for a phone or accessory when needed. For mobile gamers, that feature can be useful during travel or long periods away from a wall charger.

Performance aimed at serious play

Under the hood, the tablet will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Red Magic pairs the chipset with active cooling and liquid cooling, a setup intended to keep performance steady under heavy loads.

That approach matters in gaming tablets because heat can quickly lead to throttling and frame-rate drops. With cooling fans and liquid cooling in place, Red Magic appears focused on sustaining performance over longer play sessions rather than chasing peak numbers alone.

The company is also including a preinstalled PC game emulator from the factory. That gives the tablet broader gaming ambitions and suggests it is not being designed only for standard Android titles.

OLED display is one of the main highlights

One of the most striking confirmed features is the display. Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro will feature a 9.06-inch OLED panel with a 185Hz refresh rate.

That refresh rate is unusually high for a tablet and should support smoother motion and more responsive gameplay. The panel is also said to reach a peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits, which should help visibility in brighter environments.

OLED technology should further support vivid color reproduction, making the screen one of the clearest selling points on the device. Combined with the high refresh rate and bright output, the display gives the tablet a premium gaming profile.

Audio and software round out the package

Red Magic is also adding DTS:X Ultra 3D audio and gaming-focused software adjustments. Those additions suggest the company is trying to build a more complete gaming experience rather than relying on hardware specifications alone.

The broader strategy is clear: make a compact tablet that can handle demanding gaming while staying practical for everyday use. That is where the dual-port design, fast charging, and reverse charging support become especially important.

Lenovo is the obvious target

Red Magic is openly aiming at the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5, and the comparison is already easy to see. Lenovo has the battery advantage, but Red Magic brings faster charging, dual USB-C ports, and active cooling into the contest.

Pricing has not been announced yet, although early rumors place it at around 4,000 yuan in China. Global pricing is expected to remain competitive, but the final figure will only become clear at launch.

The Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is scheduled to debut in China on June 30, with a global launch expected to follow later. More details such as RAM, storage, and full availability are likely to emerge at that time.

For the gaming tablet segment, the device signals that competition is still intensifying. Red Magic is betting that a sharper focus on charging flexibility, cooling, and display quality can create an edge in a category where small design choices matter a great deal.
