Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Is Closing In, Qualcomm Sets a Late-September Stage

Qualcomm has locked in Snapdragon Summit 2026 for September 22 to 24 in Maui, Hawaii, setting a clear date for one of the mobile industry’s most closely watched events. The announcement does not confirm any products yet, but it has already sharpened attention on the next flagship Snapdragon chip.

The strongest expectation is that Qualcomm will use the stage to unveil Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. If that happens, the event would become a key starting point for the next wave of Android flagship phones.

What is already drawing the most attention

For now, the headline is timing, not hardware confirmation. Qualcomm has only said that the annual Snapdragon Summit will return as its platform for Snapdragon updates and broader mobile technology announcements.

That leaves the market focused on forecasts and industry reporting, especially around the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The chip is widely expected to be one of the main attractions in Hawaii next September.

Reports from the industry suggest the chip could be built on a 2nm process. If that proves accurate, the next generation could bring gains in both performance and power efficiency over its predecessor.

Two versions are already being discussed

Leaked details also point to a possible higher-end model called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Qualcomm has not confirmed that name, but early reports have already outlined a few differences between the two versions.

The standard model is said to carry the SM8950 model number and is reportedly being tested with LPDDR5X memory. The Pro variant, identified in leaks as SM8975, is said to support the newer LPDDR6 memory.

Both chips are also expected to support UFS 5.0 storage. That combination matters because it could raise data transfer speeds on future flagship devices.

If these details hold, Qualcomm appears to be planning more than a simple CPU and GPU refresh. Memory and storage support could also move up a level, which would affect system responsiveness and day-to-day device performance.

Early hardware leaks point to a bigger split

Some of the hardware chatter has been linked to leaker Digital Chat Station, though all such information remains unofficial. The reported specs give an early look at how Qualcomm may separate the standard and Pro versions.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is said to use a next-generation Oryon CPU in a 2+3+3 configuration. It is also rumored to include 16MB of shared L2 cache and an Adreno A850 GPU with 18MB GMEM.

The standard version is described as keeping a similar CPU layout, but with an Adreno A845 GPU and 12MB GMEM instead. Qualcomm has not confirmed any of these details, so the final design could still change before launch.

Flagship phone launches may follow quickly

The late-September timing also offers a clue about the launch window for future Android flagships. Several brands are reportedly preparing to move fast once Qualcomm introduces the new chip.

One name being mentioned is the Xiaomi 18 series, which is said to arrive at the end of September 2026. If that schedule holds, the gap between chipset unveiling and device launch could be extremely short.

Other models said to use Qualcomm’s next flagship platform include the iQOO 16 and HONOR Magic9 series. Those launches will help show how aggressively smartphone makers intend to adopt the new chip.

For premium Android phones, that pattern is familiar. Once Qualcomm shows its top-end Snapdragon platform, manufacturers usually rush to be first with devices built on it.

Snapdragon X3 Elite remains in the background

While the Snapdragon 8 family is getting most of the attention, there is still little reliable information about the rumored Snapdragon X3 Elite. So far, no major leak has clearly outlined what that chip might include.

Qualcomm has also made no official announcement about it. For now, the more concrete story is the one around Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, which already has a much stronger path toward a public debut.

With the Summit date now confirmed, September is shaping up to be an important marker for the mobile chip race. From Maui, Qualcomm is expected to set the tone for the next flagship season, even if the full lineup remains under wraps.
