Samsung has drawn a clear line with the Galaxy A27 5G: the phone does not support Samsung DeX. That may disappoint users who hoped for a desktop-style productivity mode in the midrange segment, but the rest of the package still makes the device notable.
The decision is tied to hardware limits, not a marketing oversight. The Galaxy A27 5G uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 built on a 4nm process, a chipset that is efficient for daily use but not ideal for the heavier workload DeX demands.
Why DeX is left out
Samsung DeX is designed to deliver a full desktop environment, which requires more than an extra display mode. The system needs strong processing power, solid thermal management, and enough RAM and memory bandwidth to run smoothly.
Samsung sees a risk of lag, excessive heat, and an unstable experience if DeX is enabled on hardware like this. The company also continues to reserve DeX as a major differentiator for its flagship Galaxy S and Z series devices.
Display, performance, and storage
Even without DeX, the Galaxy A27 5G offers a competitive set of midrange specifications. Its starting price is around $349.99, or about Rp5.3 million.
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Display | 6.7-inch Super AMOLED |
| Resolution | Full HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) |
| Refresh rate | 120Hz |
| Chipset | Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 (4nm) |
| RAM | 6GB / 8GB |
| Storage | 128GB / 256GB |
| Expansion | microSD up to 2TB |
The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate stands out as one of the phone’s main attractions. Samsung also says this is the first time the A2x series has used a 120Hz AMOLED display.
Cameras, battery, and AI features
Samsung equips the Galaxy A27 5G with a 50 MP f/1.8 main camera, a 5 MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP f/2.4 macro camera. On the front, the phone uses a 12 MP f/2.2 selfie camera.
The camera setup is not aimed at professional use, but Samsung relies on AI algorithms to improve color, exposure, and detail. That same AI focus extends beyond imaging and becomes one of the phone’s main selling points.
Galaxy AI features include Circle to Search with multi-object recognition, Object Eraser, native support for Google Gemini and Perplexity AI, and real-time translation for calls and messages. These tools are usually associated with premium devices, so their arrival on a midrange phone is a notable shift.
Power comes from a 5,000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging. The charger is not included in the box, and Samsung projects battery life of around 1.5 to 2 days under normal use.
Long software support and a simple design
Another major advantage is Samsung’s software commitment. The company promises 6 generations of Android upgrades, from Android 16 through Android 22, along with 6 years of monthly security updates.
That policy gives the Galaxy A27 5G a long useful life for a phone in this price range. It also helps position the device as a practical long-term option rather than a short-cycle upgrade.
Design-wise, the phone keeps a minimal look with a flat display, slim side frames, and a pill-shaped rear camera module. The power and volume buttons have a raised texture to make them easier to feel.
Samsung offers the Galaxy A27 5G in four colors: Black, Blue, Light Green, and Light Pink. The global launch is scheduled for July 3, 2026, while US sales begin on July 14, 2026 through Samsung’s website, carrier partners, and major retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon.
