Redmi K90 Ultra Breaks the Flagship Mold, Xiaomi Adds an Active Fan for Heavy Gaming

Xiaomi has taken an unusual route with the Redmi K90 Ultra by putting active cooling at the center of the phone’s identity. Instead of relying only on software tuning and a large vapor chamber, the device adds an internal fan to help keep temperatures under control during long gaming sessions and other demanding tasks.

That decision gives the phone a clear edge in the crowded flagship-killer segment. It is aimed at users who want high-end performance, but also care about sustained speed when a device is pushed hard for extended periods.

Active cooling becomes the main differentiator

The most striking hardware addition is an 18.1 mm active cooling fan. Xiaomi says the system is designed to support lower temperatures while gaming or handling heavy workloads, and the fan noise is claimed to stay around 32 dB.

The cooling setup is backed by a 6,000 mm² vapor chamber, giving the Redmi K90 Ultra a dual approach to heat management. That combination is intended to make performance more stable, especially when the phone is used aggressively for long stretches.

Flagship-class hardware for performance-heavy users

Powering the device is Snapdragon 8 Elite, paired with LPDDR5X RAM of up to 16GB and UFS 4.1 storage of up to 512GB. The specification sheet places the phone firmly in premium territory, with a clear emphasis on gaming, multitasking, and content editing.

With the active fan working alongside the vapor chamber, Xiaomi’s focus is not just on peak speed. The bigger promise is consistency, so the phone can keep delivering strong performance even when the workload does not let up.

The display is built for speed and visibility

The Redmi K90 Ultra uses a flat 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution. It also supports a 165Hz refresh rate, which should make motion feel smoother and everyday navigation more responsive.

Brightness reaches 3,500 nits, helping the screen remain usable in bright outdoor conditions. Xiaomi also adds 3,500Hz instant touch sampling and a 480Hz multi-finger reporting rate, features that are especially relevant for competitive gaming.

Cameras and video are not an afterthought

For imaging, the phone carries a 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization. Xiaomi says it can record video up to 8K at 30fps, which gives the device room to appeal to users who also want strong video capture.

An 8MP ultrawide camera sits on the back, while the front uses a 20MP camera in a punch-hole design. The arrangement keeps the display looking clean while still covering the basic wide-angle and selfie needs expected from a premium phone.

Battery capacity pushes the endurance story further

One of the most attention-grabbing specifications is the 8,550 mAh battery. That capacity is unusually large for a flagship phone and should be attractive to users who spend long hours gaming, streaming, or working on mobile.

The charging setup includes 100W fast charging, 22.5W reverse charging, and Bypass Charging. The last feature is useful during gaming because it can direct power to the system more directly, helping battery temperatures remain more stable.

Finished with premium extras and strong protection

Beyond raw performance, the Redmi K90 Ultra includes dual stereo speakers tuned by Bose, an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, an X-Axis vibration motor, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. It also carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance.

Those certifications give it a broader protection profile than many gaming phones that stop at a single high water-resistance rating. The model is currently sold in selected markets, but Xiaomi may still bring it to other regions through the POCO brand.
