ColorOS May Absorb OxygenOS and Realme UI, OnePlus Fans Have Good Reason to Worry

A new insider claim suggests that Oppo’s software strategy could soon become far more unified, with OxygenOS and Realme UI both folded into ColorOS. If that happens, three familiar Android skins under the same corporate umbrella would converge on a single software base.

The possible shift matters well beyond visual changes on OnePlus and Realme phones. It also points to a wider restructuring across the group, including how each brand may be positioned in different markets.

One software stack for several brands

The main argument behind the move is efficiency. A shared platform would reduce duplicated research and development work, allowing the company to focus updates, new features, and technical support on one foundation.

That approach would also simplify internal operations. Instead of maintaining separate identities for OxygenOS, Realme UI, and ColorOS, the group could centralize software development around one system.

This is not an entirely new direction for OnePlus. In 2021, Pete Lau said that OxygenOS and ColorOS would be merged, ending the idea of OnePlus having a completely separate software branch from Oppo.

OnePlus appears to be narrowing its market focus

Signs of a broader market realignment are already visible. In Germany, OnePlus Germany is said to be steering users toward Oppo devices, a move that suggests a reduced OnePlus presence in that market.

A similar pattern has reportedly emerged in the UK, where most OnePlus products are out of stock. The insider behind the claim sees that as part of a gradual withdrawal from non-core regions.

Going forward, OnePlus is said to focus exclusively on India and China. That would leave its role in other regions increasingly limited, while its operational link with Oppo becomes even tighter.

Brand Claimed Market Direction Current Signal
OnePlus India and China only Germany shifting users to Oppo, UK stock shortages
Realme Outside China Reportedly leaving the China market
Oppo Broader operational role Already handling OnePlus after-sales support in India

In India, that connection is already visible in after-sales service. OnePlus support in the country is currently handled by Oppo, showing how closely the two brands are already linked behind the scenes.

Realme’s role may shift away from China

Realme is also said to be heading in a different direction, with the brand reportedly leaving China and concentrating on overseas markets. That would make the division of labor among the brands more distinct, at least in geographic terms.

There have also been reports that OnePlus and Realme are moving toward a merger. If the latest claim proves accurate, India could become the only market where the two brands still overlap directly.

Outside India, the difference between them would likely become more about branding than software. Consumers could still see separate brand identities, but the underlying business and software base would be increasingly unified.

What this could mean for the U.S. market

The biggest uncertainty may be the United States. That market remains one of the few large ones where options outside Apple, Samsung, and Motorola are already limited.

There is still no clear answer on whether Oppo will leave the U.S. entirely or try to build a stronger presence there under its own name. OnePlus is unlikely to resolve that question on its own, given how small its footprint already is.

According to the information circulating, OnePlus has never exceeded a 1% market share in the U.S. That places the brand in a very small commercial position, even though it remains recognizable among tech enthusiasts.

Oppo faces a different challenge. The name is said to be almost unknown in the U.S. today, despite having appeared there in the past through DVD and Blu-ray players.

If the consolidation continues, the group’s brand map will become much simpler. ColorOS could become the central software experience, while OnePlus, Oppo, and Realme are defined more by market allocation than by distinct user interfaces.

For now, the entire story remains an insider claim rather than a confirmed announcement. Even so, the changes already visible in several markets give the rumor a stronger backdrop than ordinary speculation.
