Lenovo’s AI Student Phone Keeps Kids Off Games and Social Apps, Parents Can Track Live Location

Lenovo has introduced a child-focused phone that takes a very different approach from a typical smartphone. The AI Student Phone is built around learning, safety, and parental control, while leaving out the apps that often create the most distractions.

The device does not come with games, a web browser, or social media apps. Instead, Lenovo positions it as a compact communication and study tool for school-age users, with GPS-based live location tracking for parents.

Parental control is the main selling point

The strongest appeal of the AI Student Phone is the level of oversight it gives parents. The handset supports geofencing, which can send alerts when a child enters or leaves a defined area such as home or school.

Parents can manage the phone through a companion app. From there, they can block calls from unknown numbers, schedule automatic power on and off times, and activate classroom mode.

Parent Control FeatureWhat It Does
Live GPS TrackingLets parents monitor a child’s location in real time
GeofencingSends alerts when the child enters or leaves preset zones
Unknown Call BlockingFilters calls from unfamiliar numbers
Classroom ModeRestricts the phone during school hours

When classroom mode is enabled, the phone becomes highly limited. It only shows the time and still allows SOS emergency calls, keeping basic communication available without opening the door to distractions.

AI support is aimed at study use

Lenovo also built an AI function into the device through a dedicated physical button. That button activates a voice assistant designed to help children with learning-related tasks.

Users can ask general knowledge questions or request help with homework. Lenovo also includes an internal learning library with math formulas and English vocabulary, and it can be accessed without browsing the internet.

General Knowledge HelpAnswers basic educational questions
Homework AssistanceSupports schoolwork help requests
Internal Learning LibraryStores math formulas and English vocabulary

This setup reflects Lenovo’s choice to keep the device away from open web access. The AI Student Phone is built to provide guided learning instead of unrestricted internet use.

Simple hardware, but still practical

In form and function, the device is closer to a feature phone than a conventional smartphone. Lenovo uses a 1.83-inch touchscreen protected by Panda Glass, which it says is resistant to impact.

The display also supports handwriting input, adding another way for children to interact with the phone beyond the AI button. Power comes from a 1,850 mAh battery, while 4G connectivity is also supported.

Lenovo says the phone does not require a special IoT SIM card. That allows it to handle voice calls and HD video calls, keeping communication intact while preserving the device’s controlled design.

Payments are also under parental oversight

Beyond study and safety features, Lenovo has added QR code-based payments. This gives children a way to make purchases in stores using the handset.

Control remains with parents through the companion app, where spending limits can be set and every transaction can be monitored. The feature expands the phone’s role beyond calling and learning, while still keeping financial activity visible to adults.

Colors and accessories

The AI Student Phone ships with a detachable lanyard, making it easier for children to carry. In China, Lenovo offers the device in three colors: orange-white, pink, and blue.

At a price of 299 yuan, or about Rp 789.000, the AI Student Phone clearly targets families looking for a safer alternative to a standard smartphone. It combines learning tools, live location tracking, and strict usage controls in one compact device.
