Samsung Galaxy Models Likely to Stop at One UI 8, These Devices May Miss One UI 9

Samsung users are beginning to face an important question as Android 17 rolls out on Pixel devices and One UI 9.0 moves closer. A sizable group of Galaxy phones and tablets is expected to stop at One UI 8.0, which means they may never get the next major software jump.

The shift matters because One UI 9.0 is expected to follow Samsung’s current update pattern, and that pattern suggests some devices are already near the end of their operating system support. Samsung has not released an official list yet, but the expected cutoff is already clear enough for many older Galaxy models.

Flagship devices most likely to miss One UI 9.0

Among premium Galaxy models, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra are widely expected to remain on One UI 8.0. The same outlook applies to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, which are the previous-generation foldables in Samsung’s lineup.

Another model in the same situation is the Galaxy S21 FE. For tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+, and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra are also believed to be part of the group that will not move forward to One UI 9.0.

Mid-range and entry-level models on the same path

The expected cutoff is not limited to flagship products. In the mid-range segment, the Galaxy A73 5G, Galaxy A53 5G, and Galaxy A33 5G are also listed among devices likely to stop before the Android 17-based update arrives.

The same pattern extends to several lower-cost phones, including the Galaxy A14 in both 4G and 5G versions, the Galaxy A06 4G, Galaxy A05, and Galaxy A05s. Samsung’s Galaxy M series is also heavily affected, with the Galaxy M53 5G, Galaxy M33 5G, Galaxy M14, and Galaxy M05 expected to end their major OS journey at One UI 8.0.

Other Galaxy families expected to stop at One UI 8.0

The broader list also includes the Galaxy F53 5G, Galaxy F33 5G, Galaxy F14, and Galaxy F05. In addition, the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro is expected to remain outside the One UI 9.0 wave.

Why Galaxy S21 is not on the list

The circulating list does not include the regular Galaxy S21 because its operating system support ended earlier. The list focuses only on Galaxy devices that are still expected to receive One UI 8.0 before they stop advancing to the next major release.

That makes the list a forecast of one last update cycle, not a record of devices that have already lost support. It also reflects Samsung’s software policy, which limits the number of major Android upgrades each device receives from launch.

Security updates may continue for some devices

Not receiving One UI 9.0 does not mean software support disappears overnight. Samsung typically continues delivering security updates for a certain period, depending on the policy assigned to each device.

For users who want Android 17 features, better performance, and the latest AI optimizations, upgrading to a newer Galaxy model may become the practical option. Samsung is expected to publish the official One UI 9.0 compatibility list closer to the beta program or stable release.
