Nokia’s Old-School Phones Now Have an AI Button, and That Changes the Appeal

HMD Global has given Nokia feature phones a surprising update: four new models now come with on-device AI and a dedicated AI button. In a market dominated by touchscreens, the move makes these compact keypad phones feel relevant again for users who want simplicity with a modern twist.

The lineup includes the Nokia 200 4G, Nokia 210 4G, Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition, and Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition. All four keep the familiar feature-phone formula, but they now add AI access through Sikey AI directly on the device.

AI on a keypad phone

The AI function is activated through a special button placed in the center of the navigation pad. From there, users can ask simple questions and control certain phone functions with voice commands.

HMD says the AI access is free for 180 days, after which a subscription will be required to keep using it. Because the processing happens on the phone itself, the feature does not rely on cloud servers for every interaction.

Model Screen Camera Color Options
Nokia 200 4G 2.4-inch QVGA VGA front camera Black, Blue, Yellow
Nokia 210 4G 2.4-inch QVGA VGA rear camera with LED flash Dark Blue, Silver
Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition 2.8-inch IPS VGA front camera Black
Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition 2.8-inch IPS 2 MP rear camera with LED flash Black, Blue

Classic Nokia traits remain intact

Despite the AI addition, HMD kept the core Nokia feature-phone identity. Each model has physical keys, a removable 1,450 mAh battery, the S30+ operating system, and 4G support.

The phones also include FM radio and a 3.5 mm audio jack. HMD further added Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C charging, and microSD expansion up to 32 GB.

All four models support Xpress Chat, which enables video calling through the VGA front camera. That detail places the lineup firmly in the category of practical, low-frills devices rather than full smartphones.

Four models, four different levels of simplicity

The differences between the phones are mostly about display size and camera setup. The Nokia 200 4G and Nokia 210 4G use a smaller 2.4-inch QVGA display, while the Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition and Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition step up to a larger 2.8-inch IPS panel.

Camera choices also separate the lineup. The Nokia 200 4G and Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition rely on a VGA front camera, while the Nokia 210 4G adds a rear VGA camera with LED flash and the Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition goes further with a 2 MP rear camera and LED flash.

Why the launch stands out

HMD is not trying to turn these phones into smartphones. Instead, it is pairing a familiar form factor with voice access and local AI processing for people who still prefer buttons, long battery practicality, and a simple user experience.

The company has not revealed pricing or availability for the Nokia 200 4G, Nokia 210 4G, Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition, and Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition. That missing information will likely determine how far this AI-equipped feature-phone revival can go in the market.
