Oppo Reno16 Refuses A Price War, Value Becomes The Real Selling Point

Oppo Indonesia is taking a different route with the Reno16 Series. Instead of chasing rivals through aggressive pricing, the company is framing the lineup around the value users actually receive.

That approach matters because the Reno16 family sits in a segment where price often becomes the loudest battleground. In the midrange to premium class, many brands compete by trimming the number on the box, while Oppo is putting the product proposition first.

Pricing is decided from the start

According to Product Manager OPPO Indonesia Deni Setiawan, the price of each model is set when the product is launched. He said every Reno line has its own segment, so pricing is designed from the development stage rather than adjusted later.

Deni also noted that changes in pricing on a previous generation do not automatically affect a new device, and the reverse is also true. Different production bases and product characteristics, he explained, mean each model stands on its own terms.

He rejected the idea that prices can simply be pulled up or down because of market movements. Oppo, he said, calculates the final figure carefully based on the value delivered by the product.

More than hardware cost

Oppo says pricing is not determined by hardware cost alone. In its internal process, the company looks at several elements before setting the final retail position.

Those elements include hardware components, technology innovation, and the features embedded in the smartphone. With that approach, Oppo believes the Reno16 Series remains aligned with the capabilities each variant brings to users.

The method also keeps the lineup from overlapping itself. Each device is built for different user needs, so the price structure follows the position of the product within Oppo’s portfolio.

Feature upgrades define the value

The Reno16 Series brings several upgrades over the previous generation. Oppo has included Android 16 based on ColorOS 16, a large silicon-carbon battery, IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance certification, and a telephoto camera across the entire Reno16 family.

Within the lineup, Oppo also maintains clear differentiation. The Reno16 5G is positioned for everyday use with a telephoto camera and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, while the Reno16 Pro 5G targets users who want stronger photography capability through a 200MP main camera.

Reno16 F 5G takes a different role as the model with the largest battery in the international Reno16 family. It offers up to 7,000mAh, reinforcing the idea that each model is built for a different need.

Segmentation remains the key divider

In the Indonesian smartphone market, segment-based pricing is common practice. Manufacturers usually weigh production costs, standout features, target users, and a device’s place relative to other models in the same family.

Oppo appears to place the Reno16 Series within that framework, but with a stronger emphasis on value. The company sees each variant as already aligned with its hardware capability and the user segment it is meant to serve.

For Oppo, that strategy also helps preserve the Reno Series identity without getting dragged into a price war. In this view, the Reno16 Series is not positioned as a reaction to competitors, but as a reflection of the value each device offers consumers.

The lineup’s separation is meant to reduce direct overlap between variants while keeping the broader Reno identity intact. For Oppo, that is the main reason the Reno16 Series is being sold on value, not on the logic of a discount race.

That framing also explains why the company is not treating past-generation pricing as a template for the new series. Each model is judged on its own combination of hardware, features, and user benefit, which is why Oppo sees the final price as part of the product story rather than a response to rivals.
