Vivo G5i and G5z Bring a 7,200mAh Battery, but Keep the Focus on Endurance

Vivo has expanded its lineup in China with the launch of the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z, two models that arrive with nearly identical specifications and a clear emphasis on battery life. The most eye-catching detail is the 7,200mAh battery, a capacity that immediately sets both devices apart in their segment.

That large battery is paired with 44W fast charging and OTG reverse charging support. In practical terms, Vivo is positioning the pair as phones built not only for long use, but also for added flexibility when power sharing becomes necessary.

Performance built around Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

Under the hood, both models use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, built on a 4-nanometer process. The chip works with an Adreno 613 GPU, up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, while the software side runs on OriginOS 6 based on Android 16.

This combination places the two devices squarely in the midrange category, with an emphasis on efficiency rather than raw flagship power. The hardware choices also support Vivo’s broader approach of balancing endurance, daily responsiveness, and modern connectivity.

Large display, smooth motion

Both phones feature a 6.75-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1,570 x 720 pixels. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz, which should make scrolling, animation, and gaming feel more responsive.

Although the panel remains HD+, the higher refresh rate is the more notable selling point here. Vivo appears to be prioritizing fluid day-to-day use and better power efficiency over a higher-resolution screen.

Camera setup keeps things simple

The camera system is straightforward, led by a 50MP main camera with autofocus and an f/1.8 aperture. It supports up to 10x digital zoom, while the 8MP front camera offers up to 2x digital zoom.

Both the front and rear cameras can record video at up to Full HD 1080p. The setup suggests Vivo is aiming for dependable everyday imaging rather than a feature-heavy camera package.

Features, durability, and design details

The Vivo G5i and G5z also include stereo speakers, 5G, dual nano-SIM, NFC, USB Type-C, Wi-Fi Display, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and an infrared remote. For security, the phones use a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and Face Wake facial recognition.

Durability is another major part of the package. Both devices carry IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, along with military-grade drop protection certification.

The two models measure 166.64 x 78.43 x 8.39 mm and weigh about 219 grams. They are available in Obsidian Black and are already on sale through Vivo’s official store in China.

Model options and comparison

Vivo is offering two memory configurations for both devices: 6GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage. Aside from the model name, the G5i and G5z are essentially the same phone.

Specification Vivo G5i / G5z
Battery 7,200mAh

With the same hardware, the same software, and the same features, the choice between the two comes down to model naming rather than a meaningful difference in the device itself. For buyers looking at Vivo’s latest China release, the real story is how much battery capacity and durability the company has packed into a midrange design.
