Galaxy Z Fold 8 Goes Wider, Ultra Model Takes Samsung’s Foldables Upmarket

Samsung’s next foldables are shaping up to look less like a routine update and more like a strategic reset. Leaks ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 suggest the company is preparing both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, with roles that are very different from the previous generation.

The biggest change may not be the hardware alone, but the naming plan behind it. What was previously referred to as the Galaxy Fold Wide is now expected to launch as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the device positioned as the true successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is being framed as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

A Wider Body Designed for Everyday Use

The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to arrive with a wider body, a change that should make the cover screen feel closer to a conventional smartphone. That adjustment could make typing messages and browsing the web more comfortable for daily use.

Leaked renders also point to a visible design split between the two models. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 appears with two rear cameras and a punch-hole front camera, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra moves to a triple rear-camera setup for a more premium look.

According to information cited by GSM Arena, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will carry a 7.6-inch main display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution. Its cover screen is said to measure 5.5 inches, use a 16:10 aspect ratio, and also offer QHD+ resolution.

For imaging, Samsung is said to equip the phone with a 50 MP f/1.8 main camera and a 50 MP f/1.9 ultrawide camera. A 10 MP f/2.2 selfie camera is expected to serve both the outer display and the main display.

The handset is rumored to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of internal storage. Power is expected to come from a 4,800 mAh battery, supported by 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

Size figures place the device at 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7 mm when folded and 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5 mm when unfolded, with a weight of around 201 grams. Despite being a little thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the device is still said to remain relatively light in hand.

Ultra Model Targets the Top of the Line

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is being positioned as the most expensive model in the new foldable family. Beyond the triple rear-camera system, it is also expected to ship with a larger battery than the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The Ultra variant is also rumored to offer more RAM and more storage, reinforcing its role as the direct premium-tier successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Four Color Options, Including Black

Leaker Setsuna Digital says the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will come in four color options. The regular lineup is said to include black, white, and purple, while green is reserved as an online-exclusive color.

That detail contradicts earlier reports suggesting Samsung would drop black entirely. The return of black makes sense in a market where the color remains one of the most popular choices for smartphones.

Green is said to look more appealing than the mint finish on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, while purple is expected to carry a softer tone. Samsung is also reportedly preparing official accessories to accompany the new foldable launch.

European Prices Are Starting to Leak

Pricing details for Europe have also begun to surface, as reported by Android Authority. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 256 GB is expected to start at 1,999 euro, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra 256 GB is said to begin at 2,199 euro.

For the Ultra model, the 512 GB version is tipped at 2,399 euro and the 1 TB version at 2,799 euro. By comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 previously launched in Europe at 2,099 euro for 256 GB, 2,219 euro for 512 GB, and 2,519 euro for 1 TB.

The higher pricing is likely tied to rising component costs, especially memory, which continues to push premium smartphone prices upward. Even so, these numbers remain early European leaks and may not match official pricing in other markets.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 Is Also Set to Rise

The price increase does not appear limited to the Fold series. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also expected to start at 1,299 euro for the 256 GB model and 1,499 euro for the 512 GB version.

For comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 launched at 1,199 euro for 256 GB and 1,319 euro for 512 GB. That suggests Samsung may be preparing a new foldable lineup with higher pricing across several key models.

Samsung is expected to confirm the full details at Galaxy Unpacked on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Until then, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra remain the two models drawing the most attention because of their wider design, new naming strategy, and rising price expectations.
