Apple’s first iPhone Air stood out for one reason above all others: its ultra-thin design. But that same design also drew criticism, mainly because the battery felt too small and the rear camera setup was limited to a single lens.
Early leaks about the iPhone Air 2 suggest Apple may be preparing a more practical follow-up. If the reported changes prove accurate, the next model could keep the slim profile while addressing the two complaints users raised most often.
Bigger Battery, Clearer Daily Advantage
Tipster Digital Chat Station, cited by www.gadgets360.com from supply chain sources, says the iPhone Air 2 will use a 3,500mAh battery. That would be an increase over the 3,149mAh battery inside the first iPhone Air.
The difference is not dramatic on paper, but it matters for a phone this thin. A larger battery would likely improve endurance and make the Air line feel less compromised next to other iPhone models.
| Model | Battery Capacity | Rear Camera Setup |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Air | 3,149mAh | 1 x 48 MP camera |
| iPhone Air 2 | 3,500mAh | 2 rear cameras |
Dual Cameras Would Mark the Bigger Upgrade
The stronger rumored change is in photography. The iPhone Air 2 is said to add a second rear camera, pairing the main 48-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens.
That would be a clear step up from the current iPhone Air, which has only one 48-megapixel rear camera. An ultra-wide lens would give users more room for landscapes, interiors, and wider scenes.
Other Reported Details Point to a Newer Chip
Other reported specifications include an A20 chip built on a 2nm process, a 6.55-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and 3D face recognition support.
The first iPhone Air, by comparison, ships with the A19 Pro chip, a 6.5-inch display, an ultra-slim 5.6 mm body, and a 18-megapixel front camera. Those details helped define the first model as a design-first phone, even if some users wanted more battery life and imaging flexibility.
Launch Timing Still Appears Distant
Apple is reportedly planning to launch the iPhone Air 2 in early 2027 alongside the base iPhone 18. For now, the device remains in rumor territory rather than official product planning.
The first iPhone Air arrived in September last year with a starting price of Rp 1,19,900 for the 256GB variant. The 512GB model was priced at Rp 1,39,900, while the 1TB version sold for Rp 1,59,900.
For Apple, the direction looks clear enough: keep the Air identity built around thinness, but remove the two limitations that most clearly held back the first version.
