OnePlus Is Reportedly Pushing 185 Hz Far Beyond Flagships, and That Changes the Game

OnePlus is rumored to be preparing a wider rollout of 185 Hz displays across its smartphone lineup, moving the feature beyond a single flagship tier. If accurate, the upgrade would mark a notable shift in how the company positions screen refresh rates across multiple models.

The most striking part of the report is that 185 Hz may not be limited to the OnePlus 16. Instead, the display could appear in more devices, including mid-range phones and the Ace series sold in China.

A Broader Display Strategy

Early details came from tipster Smart Pikachu, who said OnePlus is not only preparing 185 Hz for the OnePlus 16. The claim suggests the company wants to extend the same display technology to a much larger part of its smartphone portfolio.

That would be a significant jump for a brand that already has several phones at 165 Hz. According to KompasTekno via Gizchina, the current group includes the OnePlus 15, Ace 6, Ace 6 Ultra, 15T, 15R, and Nord 6.

Model OnePlus Refresh Rate Status
OnePlus 15 165 Hz Already in circulation
Ace 6 165 Hz Already in circulation
Ace 6 Ultra 165 Hz Already in circulation
15T 165 Hz Already in circulation
15R 165 Hz Already in circulation
Nord 6 165 Hz Already in circulation

If the rumor proves correct, the successors to those phones would likely move to 185 Hz. That would effectively raise the company’s screen standard and spread the faster panel more quickly across different segments.

Why 185 Hz Matters

Higher refresh rates generally make the display feel smoother during scrolling and animation. The difference is most noticeable when opening apps, moving through menus, or playing mobile games.

Most smartphones in the mid-range and flagship categories still rely on 120 Hz panels. A few devices have moved to 144 Hz, especially in gaming-focused models, so 185 Hz would be a much larger leap if OnePlus adopts it widely.

The OnePlus 16 Still Looks Like the First Candidate

Before talk of a wider rollout surfaced, the OnePlus 16 was already being described as the first OnePlus phone expected to use a 185 Hz display. The company had also been reported to experiment with a panel reaching 240 Hz.

That 240 Hz prototype was later said to have been scrapped, according to Digital Chat Station. OnePlus then reportedly settled on 185 Hz as the final direction for its next display development.

Even so, none of this has been officially confirmed by OnePlus. The broader rollout idea remains a rumor, and Smart Pikachu’s remarks should still be treated as speculation about the company’s strategy.

Global Availability Remains Unclear

OnePlus also faces uncertainty around phone sales in the United States, the United Kingdom, and several European markets. That situation could affect how widely 185 Hz displays are deployed outside China.

For now, a China-first launch still appears to be the most likely scenario. If the rumor is true, OnePlus may be preparing a more aggressive display strategy than the market has seen from the brand before.
