Casio has brought two new all-black G-Shock G-Steel models to the United States, and the biggest surprise is not just the dark finish. The GST-B1000BD-1A and GST-B1000BD-2A arrive with a much slimmer profile than most people expect from a G-Shock, while still keeping the line’s rugged identity intact.
Both watches are priced at $510 and follow an earlier launch in Japan last month. Casio is clearly pushing a more refined direction here, but without giving up the durability that defines the G-Shock name.
A slimmer build without losing the G-Shock character
The two models measure 46.9 x 44.2 x 11.6 mm and weigh 118 grams. That 11.6 mm thickness is the detail that stands out most, because Casio achieved the slimmer body by using a more compact internal module and bonding the crystal with adhesive.
Even with that reduction in size, the shock-resistant structure remains in place. Casio is not presenting these as delicate dress watches, but as tougher steel models that now wear in a cleaner and more compact form.
Monochrome styling with premium metal treatment
The visual theme stays fully black across the collection. Casio applies black ion plating to the stainless steel bracelet, case back, side buttons, crown, and external screws, while the bezel skips any logo and combines brushed and polished finishes.
The case itself is not purely metal. Casio uses a mix of stainless steel and bio-based carbon, supported by the Carbon Core Guard structure to help protect the internal components from impact.

Tough Solar and Bluetooth stay onboard
Casio equips both watches with Tough Solar charging, giving them long-running practicality beyond the updated design. The company says the watches can last up to five months under normal use, or up to 18 months in total darkness with power-saving mode enabled.
Bluetooth connectivity is also included, with support for the Casio Watches smartphone app. Through the app, users can access automatic time adjustment, a phone finder function, and easier control over basic watch settings from a phone.
For everyday use, Casio adds 200-meter water resistance, a screw-lock crown, and mineral glass. The watches also include a white Super Illuminator LED with afterglow, plus Neobrite coating on the analog hands for better visibility in low light.
Additional functions include a 30-minute stopwatch, countdown timer, daily alarm, and full auto-calendar. That combination keeps the GST-B1000BD-1A and GST-B1000BD-2A focused on practical use, even as they lean into a more premium-looking finish.
The new G-Steel models are now available through Casio’s official retail channel in the US. According to www.gizmochina.com, their arrival also extends Casio’s recent push in the same market, following the earlier release of two Color Camo watches with a bolder Y2K-inspired design.
